MENZI

I can't believe my mom right now. Since when do I go with her to the shops? Unless we're going to buy things for me and for now I don't need anything. Or she's trying to cheer Langa up maybe she also want me to be there because I'm the one who she's used to. It makes sense right? She asked me to drive so that she will sit with Langa at the back about "girls staff". I kept on looking at them through a mirror and Langa wasn't comfortable,not even a little bit. She's shy and mom is not making things easier for her.

Oh, I haven't introduced myself,where are my manners. Well, I am Menzi Magubane.I am the only child of Zamani and Ntombi Magubane. I won't get into somuch details but I just graduated for Medicine, I'm a qualified doctor and next week Monday I'm starting work at the local hospital. My friend here, she got a job at another hospital in town. I'm sad that we will be apart, truth be told, I wanted more than just friends from her but I'm just glad she friendzoned me because I've learnt a lot from her.
Me :" I'm sorry Langa but that's how she is"
Mom :" I told this is girls staff, you should keep quiet"
I kept quiet and continued with my driving. We arrived at the mall and went to a restaurant, the time we walked in a waiter came towards us and showed us a table alread prepared with three chairs, we sat down and ordered. Mom forced us to talk about USA.
Mom :" so, Langa. Did you have a boyfriend back there?"
Langa choked on the water she was drinking.
Me :" mom!"
Mom :" Menzi shut your mouth because I'm still coming to you"
Langa :" no mom, I had no boyfriend back there"
Mom :" here?"
Langa :" I also have no boyfriend here, I want to focus on my career first"
Mom :" maybe you won't have to look far, maybe he's been around you all along"
I looked at her and she looked at me, mom though.
I shook my head.
Mom :" and you Menzi, any girlfriend back there?"
Me :" I'm not doing this with you"
Her :" I really hope you didn't leave a baby or someone pregnant there,for your sake"
I ignored her and continued with my food.
We finished eating and her phone rang again, she answered and stood up. She walked away talking to it.
She then came back.
Her :" there's an emergency we need to rush home but we need to pass by the garage"
Me :" Which garage mom?"
Her phone beeped, she looked the screen.
Her :" change of plan, please come and help me, both of you"
She said getting out of a car and we followed her, dear God we should be resting but here we are going up and down with an old confused woman who doesn't know what she wants but it's clear that she's up to something. She led us to clicks store where she forced us to buy cosmetics we don't even need.

Finally we're going home and she's still talking, that's my mom. I know her, she's very allergic to a quiet and peaceful place. We arrived home and there were cars parked outside but it seemed like there was no one inside the house, she told me to park outside so I did. We went inside the house.

Menzi's father,Langa's uncle,Thembeka and Dorcas (The helper at Magubane's) has prepared a suprise graduation party for Langa and Menzi, congratulating them.
There are few guests invited,they've been communicating with Menzi's mother and she told them that they arrived so they all hid quiet.

They found the door locked, Menzi's mother took out the key from her bag and handed him, he opened. They all entered, it was dark in the room because every Windows and curtains were closed so Menzi lights, then "Surprise!!!" They all screamed.

LANGALETHU.

The whole room was decorated in black and gold, so this explains Menzi's mom taking us away. On the wall there was a black cloth written "DR MSIMANGO AND DR MAGUBANE JUST GRADUATED 🎓🎓" There were chairs nicely decorated and the table also had chairs.I couldn't believe what I saw, they included me in their child's party. I looked around and saw my uncle, he looked a bit old that I last saw him. Silly me, what am I saying? I've been gone for seven years, did I expect to find him the same?
Me :" uncle?"
He just smiled and nodded. This means he was also involved in this, I went and hugged him, there's this feeling I always get when we share hugs. That feeling where I feel like I have everything I need in this world.
Him :" I'm so proud of you" he kissed my forehead. I lifted my head and looked at him, his eyes were teary.
" We don't have enough time, the party hasn't started!" I followed where the voice was coming, oh God! It's Thembeka and she's okay. If I'd tell you that yesterday she couldn't even move you'd say I'm lying. I literally ran to her and hugged her tightly.
Me :" cuzy!! You're alive!!"
We shared the long tight hug
Her :" before you break my tiny ribs,come" she said leading me to the room I was using. On top of the bed there was a  box and a dress next to it and a graduation gown and a mortarboard on top of it.

MENZI.

I never thought our families would do this for us, infact I wasn't even thinking about it.
I was told to go and change, I found the suit and the shoes already placed on top of my bed. So I brushed my teeth and washed my face and wore my suit. Aiybo don't look at me like that, I bathed before I was hijacked to go to the shops, didn't sweat nor fall down. I finished wearing and looked myself on the mirror. Who ever picked this knows his or her story because it's definitely not my parents or aunt Dorcas.

NARRATED.

The invited gratuates were sitting around the table living two big chairs in the middle for the two new graduates. They both walked in when a song was playing, wearing matching outfits,lol! Whoever planned this I think was playing matchmaker here. They danced to the song and they then went to sit down. Thembeka was also the MC on her graduating gown.

Her :" my program is too short, only four speeches then the party starts"
Menzi's dad and Langa's uncle made their speeches telling their children that they're proud of them, blah blah blah, y'all know those emotional speeches that parents makes on their children's graduation.

Thembeka :" Thank you somuch, let's hear what MR and MISS party have to say about their day, starting with you my lady"

Langa stood up and wiped her eyes.
Thembeka :" please don't ruin my work, I worked very hard putting a make up on that face"
Everyone laughed, Langa smiled.
Langa :" Hey everyone, I'm not a person of many words but this means a lot to me. Firstly,my favorite uncle and cousin thank you for having faith in me. And my study mate here, I thank you for always challenging me because that made me work hard so that I can beat you on our silly competitions. Mr and Mrs Magubane, thank you for all you have done for me and thank you all guys for making this day for us" she sat down.
Menzi stood up " Ladies and gentleman, I won't be long. Mr and Mrs Magubane, thanks for supporting me when I was dreaming of being a doctor, thanks for supporting me in making my dream come true" he walked to them and took of his graduation gown and put it on his mother and a hat on his dad " this is for you" he then walked back " and DR Msimango, thank you for always beating me on our competitions because that pushed me to do better even though I couldn't beat you even on my best but I achieved more that I hoped for. Aiy let's get this party started" he said sitting down.

Thembeka :" the real part will be outside"
