5 Years Later.
Living with gogo is the best thing that ever happened in my life. I learnt that she's my real grandmother, she wanted to take me in when my parents died but because my mother was married she couldn't because uncle Thabani and his wife was the family closed to me and they were also willing to take me in. Because of certain reason she didn't fight with them, she didn't even knew that I live around until the day we met at the river. Thanks to whatever made her go there because here there's a tank and a tap. It must be the ancestors who sent her there so that she can find me.
I'm now doing my matric and today I'm writing my final examination. My high school years were better than my primary years because now I belong somewhere. My uncle and aunt takes care of me. Thembela stopped bothering me, thanks God. Talking about her, she's doing grade 9 and pregnant with her second baby while the other one is not even one year old. Thembeka is doing her first year at University of Cape town and I'm so proud of her.
"Phuma lapho idokwe lizoze libande, konje awube usasuka phambi kwesibuko" that's my grandma, even now she wakes up and prepare everything for me so that when I wake up everything is ready.
Me :" sengiyeza gogo" I said walking out, I found her sitting and holding a bible. She closed it and sighed.
Her:" ubabomncane wakho nomfazi wakhe bafuna ukuza lapha"
Me :" obani labo gogo?"
Her :" uThokozani no Nomalungelo"
Me :" bathi bazofunani"
Her :" angazi kodwa bathe kubalulekile, ngyathemba nje abezile ukuzongicasula"
Me :" asithembe kanjalo"
I ate my porridge with her looking at me, she was even smiling.
Me :" aiybo gogo, usuyangithusa"
Her :" uyazazi kodwa ukuthi umuhle kanjani? Futhi usukhulile ngiyaziqhenya ngawe"
Me :" ngyabonga gogo" (smiling)
Her :" noma sengongafa, ngyolala ngiphumule ngoba ngizobe ngazi ukuthi uphephile usuyajwazi ukuzivikela"
Me :" ungakhulumi kanjalo gogo, uyazi nje ngifuna ube khona uma sengigqoka ijazi lobudokotela"
Her :" nami ngifisa kanjalo kodwa kangazi uNkulunkulu ungihlelele ini"
Me :" ngihlezi ngikuthandazela lokho, ngiyobona lapho-ke ukuthi uyangizwa uma engigcinele wena"
Her :" hamba usuzoze ube late eskoleni"
I stood up and rinsed the bowl and went to get my timetable in my room. I said goodbye to her and left. I walked to school alone, since Thembeka left I walk alone.I arrived at school and I was an hour early, thanks to ugogo. I sat down under the tree because it was hot out there and waited,my aim was to go to the exam room 30 minutes before it starts. I need this shade to refresh my mind because I'm writing paper 3 for English today,y'all know what that means right? It means I need my mind fresh so that I don't run out of lies inside there.
As I was still sitting there Menzi walked towards me, he's the guy that I've been competing for the first position with since were doing grade eight. He came towards me and sat down, without even me telling him to.
Him :" Lethu"
Me :" Hello"
Him :" how are you feeling about finishing school"
Me :" I can't wait for next year"
Him :" I also can't wait, I so wish we'll be doing the same course so that our competition doesn't end now, here"
Me :" who said I was even in a competition with you?"
Him :" it's clear babes, me and you are always competing"
I chuckled. We now finished writing the final paper, I'm not excited though. I'm still waiting for my results. I'm hoping for the Bachelor pass but I'm not sure with the distinctions, what I know is that I need eight of them so that they won't hesitate to take me at Cuba.
"Lethu wait" I turned and looked back, it is Menzi. I sighed and got under the tree.
He was running, in this hot weather. Hopefully I won't be the one to be blamed if it happens that he faints. He reached the tree and sat down, breathing heavily.
Me :" you want to faint?" I asked joining him, sitting down.
Him :" ofcourse not"
Me :" then why are you running like that?"
Him :" what choice did I have? I've been calling out your name but you couldn't stop"
We sat down and chatted,he was so sure that he'll get all the eight distinctions and that made me more nervous.
Me :" I have to go home, we're expecting visitors this afternoon"
Him :" hopefully you're not being hooked up for some arranged marriage"
I laughed.
Me :" no silly, it's my aunt and uncle"
Him :" please put your number here" he said handing me his cellphone. I took it and put my number. I've been refusing to give it to him for a long time now. We then went our separate ways.I found gogo sitting under the tree, knitting her socks. Gogo doesn't buy clothes, whatever you find her wearing, just know that she made it herself besides shoes .
Me :" Sawubona gogo"
Her :" cishe ngathumela amasotsha azokubheka"
Me :" hau gogo, kade ngihleli noMenzi"
Her :" uthi uyofunda kuphi yena"
Me :" asikhulumanga ngalokho"
Her :" kulungile hamba uyokhumula bese uza sizohlala lapha nokudla kwakho kupholile kamnandi"I went and took off my uniform and wore a short with a vest and flip flops. I then washed my hands and took the food on the oven. She cooked my favourite meal, chicken and dumplings, yummy! I poured the juice and went to sit next to her on the bench. We sat and talked about old days, she even told me about my grandfather, the way he died. Apparently they were sitting in their bedroom, he just turned his eyes and fell down,he never Woke up. His family suspected my grandmother for bewitching him, that explains them not coming here.
Aunt and uncle came, We're now all sitting on the sitting room. I was also called to the meeting.
Gogo :" nizofunani lapha?" She asked looking at them.
Uncle :" sizokhuluma ngoLanga"
Gogo :" nizothini ngoLanga?"
Aunt :" uLanga yingoduso yomuntu"
Me :" cha anti kushuthi usuyahlanya ke manje"
Gogo :" yiya ekamereni lakho"
Me :" kuncono ngibe lapha"
Gogo :" yekela mina ngilungise le ndaba. Thokozani ukhuluma ngani umkakho?"
Uncle :" Senza isivumelwano nabantu bakwaMdladla ukuthi uLanga uma eqeda isikole uzoshada indodana yabo kanti-ke sebakhokha nokukhokha"
Gogo :" ngoba kwenzenjani?"
Aunt :" besidinga imali yokufundisa uThembeka sabona kuncono sithathe lelithuba"
Gogo :" uma senilithathile i thuba, iphi eyokufundisa uLanga imali?"
Aunt and uncle both looked at each other.
Gogo :" niyazibona nihlanya kanjani, umuntu ozoshada kwaMdladla lapho uThembeka,angifuni-ke ukuphhinde ngizwe nhalodoti. Ingane yomtanami le anginifuni eduze kwayo. Emva kwabo bonke ubuhlungu eniyizwise bona senibona kuncono niyidayise, naze nakhohlakala" she said clapping her hands.
All the time I was sitting there like a wet chicken looking at whoever was saying something at that time.
Gogo then chased them out, I was still shocked and couldn't believe what just happened.
