I
When I Lost You
(7 years old)Several years ago, I was the most content 7 year old to ever exist. I felt like I was unstoppable. Though that is definitely untrue, that was what I thought. I wasn't very good at making friends, I only had a good few. That is something that doesn't really matter to me, because the amount of friends doesn't matter if they are all fake. I know I'd rather have a few true friends than having tons of people I don't know if I could trust. There was a boy, who was my greatest friend to ever exist. This boy's name was Tom.
Tom wasn't like most boys you come across at school or meet at a playground. He was a prince. Even though we were only seven, he still had responsibilities that were very important. Tom wasn't able to show his weaknesses in the crowd, or have a tantrum in public. He had to be above all of that. Perhaps that's one of the reasons we understood each other, I couldn't fit in, and he wasn't allowed to. It's amazing I was even allowed to be his friend, but his mother Queen Nikki liked me alot. She knew my parents. I envied her a little, because I never knew them. I was an orphan.
After they died, the Queen and King took it as their personal responsibility to raise me. They taught me to talk, sit, stand like a princess. I was educated in all sorts of fine arts, and languages. I didn't mind one bit about any of this, because the more I would study, the less time I would have to chat with other children. I always preferred to be a loner, but Tom wouldn't always let me stay in that habit.
He would constantly force me to go play, and talk to other kids our age. I didn't mind a few of them. His friend Harrison I liked. As kids go, he seemed pretty normal, and he wasn't overly obnoxious. Those were the only two I knew I could trust.
I know that seems weird for a seven year old to already be pre dispositioned not to trust anyone. However, I had been through a lot. I had been exposed to the real world, and situations most kids that young don't have to worry about. The Holland's did their best to keep me naive, but they couldn't undo what I had already learned about the world.
One day, Tom and I were running through the garden. We ran through the hedges, and many leaves were sticking to our feet. The ground was damp from the morning dew that day, and after thirty minutes outside we were already knee deep in mud. Only when we got to the center, we stopped to sit down on the bench.
"Y/N, you should've seen your face!" Tom laughed, as his hand pushed back his hair that had fallen to his face.
"What are you talking about?" I snorted. "Do you mean this face?"
I scrunched up my face, and stuck out my tongue in a mocking way. We just rolled back with laughter, barely catching enough air to keep us from passing out.
"That reminds me. I have something for you." He said, as the our laughter died down. He pulled something out of his pocket.
"What's this?" I asked, taking the odd shaped box, and revealing a wonderful star necklace.
"Its a gift. You are my best friend, so I thought my biggest star should have a star."
"Oh haha." I laughed, remembering our conversation from many years back. We had this ongoing thing about me being a star. I wasn't good at making friends, but when I needed to I could shine brighter than anybody else.
I took the star necklace and clasped it onto my neck. That's when the rain started coming down.
It was pouring rain, and I remember the tiny little droplets coming down my cheek. Our clothes stuck tightly to our skin. It was a memory I wouldn't forget.
"Come on let's get inside!" Tom shouted, as he grabbed my hand and practically dragged me through the maze.
I don't remember how, but my hand slipped from his grasp. I could see him running through a certain part of the maze, but he wasn't stopping. I don't think Tom had noticed. I ran as fast as I could to follow him, but the rain started blocking my vision. It was coming down so hard I could barely see. I took the path which I though he took... I was scared. It looked like a dead end.
I remember hearing a noise, and I hesitantly spoke in a soft tone. "Tom, is that you?"
That's all I remember, before someone grabbed me around the mouth, and I blacked out.
An: What do you think happened? What did you think?
