VIII
Shots FiredIt had been weeks since I had talked to Tom. He made many attempts to talk to me, but I ignored him. Partially I felt bad, but then again I wasn't the one who lied. Throughout these weeks, I had been hanging out with everybody but him, including his own brothers. Sometimes they'd try to convince me to talk to him, but after awhile they stopped knowing that they were pushing the limits. Everything would've been different if he had just told me the truth. I wonder where his true self, the man who took me to the river was hiding. What had happened to Tom?
I snapped out of my thoughts, when I looked at the schedule.Today was the day of another party. I hated having constant events, but I had to get used to it. Though, sometimes I'd sneak out and go to the kitchens when everybody was getting on my nerves. The only thing that was different about today, was this party was a shooting one. Guns, and eloquence doesn't mix well together, or at least it doesn't work in my opinion. All of the boys were excited for this event, because they could show off their skills to the girls. I thought this was extremely ridiculous, I didn't understand the commotion about this. Princes from all over the world were just coming to shoot for the girls? If they really wanted to impress them, how about they remember to be on time for once? Perhaps they could take interest in what women like, instead of trying to catch our attention with things of their interest.
Personally, I love to shoot guns, but I'm not like most girls. So, if they wanted to attract them they should do the opposite of what I like, and then they'd be successful. However, people don't listen to me so why do I even bother? I was just trying to be a good friend right, or did I have something to prove? I always wanted recognition that I could handle myself well on my own, and that men weren't always the answer. I suppose this is because of my bad experience with romantic, or paternal relationships with men. My friends are alright for me, but that's because they treat me like one of the guys instead of a person with a bigger chest cavity.
I guess I'd just have to get over myself, I thought. I was currently sitting on the sidelines of this event, where all the other women sat. My friends Ceci, and Jules were right beside me. Ceci was sitting upright, looking over in Tyler's direction. They were cute together I had to admit, but I seriously was going to hit Tyler in the head if he doesn't make a move soon. Jules on the other hand was currently eating a corn dog she got from the concession stand.
"Do you ever stop eating?" Ceci laughed
"No." Jules replied. "Why should I? I'm hungry, and I'm going to eat. I'm not going to starve myself because men like skinnier women. If they don't like it, they can fuck off."
"I swear, you always crack me up." Ceci responded.
"Can I have a bite?" I asked. Jules passed over the corn dog, and I took a bite. It was so delicious. It practically melted in my mouth.
"Hey, only one bite Y/N." She said, as she grabbed the corn dog away from me.
"Oh look who it is." Ceci said, as she pointed in Hailey's direction.
"What is she up to?" I questioned.
The dark haired girl was walking towards Tom, and his buddies. My friends to be exact, as well as some people I didn't recognize. She gushed in front of him, giggling at every word he said. It was bloody disgusting to watch, I seriously thought I would vomit. One of the boys tried to offer her a gun, and when it was put in her hand she squealed. If it was a snake it would've bit her. Hailey tried to run away as fast as possible, but unfortunately she stepped in mud.
"MY SHOES!" She screamed. "THEY'RE RUINED!"
"Oh my dear, don't worry we can buy you a new pair." Lady Helga stated, as she walked towards her daughter to comfort her. She pulled her in a hug, and I'm not going to lie it was hilarious.
"THEY WERE LIMITED EDITION." She sobbed.
"Wow she's got it good." Jules laughed. "My dad doesn't even replace my food when it drops on the floor. The five second rule always applies at my house."
All of us laughed at the scene. It was funny when she was 'wounded'. I pity the poor sap that has to marry her, she is high maintenance. "You can't do that Harrison, women are delicate creatures."
My mouth was agape. Tom had said those words. Did he think we were all that way, that we would run away in the first sight of danger? Damn him, it isn't true. I stormed over towards them, not caring what attention I drew towards myself. I stood directly in front of Tom, my eyes catching his confused look.
"What are you doing?" He asked.
"I want to try." I stated. I received many laughs from the crowd, but I was dead serious. My expression stayed the same.
"You can't be serious. Did you see what just happened?" Tom laughed. "Women aren't suited for this type of sport."
"In case you didn't realize I didn't ask for your opinion." I snapped. "If you don't give me a shot you better be ready for me to damn well pry the gun out of your fingers."
"Y/N, come on. Why don't you go back and sit down." He replied.
"No." I said firmly. "Unlike your plaything, I'm not wimpy. I can take care of myself, and I will defend myself so I am not classified in the same category as that bitch."
Out of anger, I bent over and grabbed the mud from the ground. I wiped it all over my body, and my face. I was proving a point. I snatched the gun out of his hands, and aimed for the target. I heard many warning yells, several about 'don't forget the headphones'. I shot it three times. Bullseye.
I turned over to Tom who was completely dumbfounded. I shoved the gun back in his hands. "Oh, I'm sorry. Did I step on your moment?"
I started to walk away when I heard a voice call for me. "Hey wait, Y/N is it?"
"Yes." I responded. It was a man who had brown hair, similar to Tom's. He had brown eyes, and a winning smile.
"Hi, I'm Kevin." He said. "I was wondering if you would accompany me to the dinner party tonight."
I looked over at Tom, who looked furious. I raised my eyebrows at him. He was jealous. "She can't, she's going with me."
"I wasn't aware of this." I smirked. I was going to use this situation to my advantage. It was something that would make Tom's blood boil. "I'm sure Tom can let me go with you tonight. After all he can get any woman."
He glared at me, as I walked over to Kevin and grabbed his hand. "So tell me more about yourself."
I turned to get one last glance, Tom threw down the gun in frustration, and ran off. Harrison was quick to follow him, but my friends were just giving me thumbs up. Even Tom's brothers were laughing, but nodding in approval. Looks like I won this time Tom. 1-0.
