Chapter 1:
Getaway
••- Natalie's POV -••
Huh...? What's that strange sound..?
In the middle of darkness, a dripping sound echoed throughout the room.
I still had my eyes closed, and even without opening my eyes, I had this feeling that I wouldn't like what I would see if I ever opened it. I can feel goosebumps all over my body. And I can't help but wonder where that creepy sound came from. If I was in my room, nothing would be able to create that dripping sound since as far as I can remember, I never had a faucet in my room. Heck, I don't even have a droplet of water stored in some kind of a jar in here!
It's impossible for it to come from my bathroom, too. Cause last month, the King had the mage they'd captured cast some kind of a spell which made my room soundproof. I don't even know why. It's not like I'm partying here or something. I don't shout either. I just keep quiet and read a book in my bed.
Out of curiosity, I opened my eyes. And the moment I did, I wished I'd just kept it closed and slept. I regretted it. I knew the ambiance of the room was weird and creepy and all, but what I saw was beyond creepy and all that. It was horrifying.
I saw blood. Blood, dammit, blood.
Not just anything you'd see everyday.
And it wasn't just a droplet or a puddle. Some were splashed on the walls. Some creating words. Sentences, even. And the floor did nothing to ease what I'm feeling right now. It had several puddles of blood. I forced myself to look around, fighting the urge to throw up.
Well, there's no backing out now, I told myself.
There were several things written on the walls, and it creeps the hell out of me, I swear. But one particular sentence caught my attention. It was written in a familiar handwriting. I had the feeling I saw it before, I just can't remember whose penmanship it was. The sentence being written in blood gives me the shivers. And the meaning behind the message did not help, either.
Run, Natalie, run! Run for it! Don't look back!
I cringed. What the hell? What's happening? Why are there things like this written in blood? I was starting to get scared, so I called out the Cavaliers. But no one came. It was like no one was there in the first place. Like I was all alone.
Terrified, I took a step, but felt liquid rushing and splashing on my knees. I looked down.
Oh damn.
The blood was flowing through the opened door. There was someone standing there, but I couldn't make out who he is, he was standing in the shadows. I called for help, but the door just closed in my face, the pool of blood reaching my eyes.
I closed them. And then I was breathing again. I opened my eyes. My breathing pattern was rapid, like I've just run thirty minutes straight. I was sweating too.
