(A/N- So I was listening to We Fell In Love In October by girl in red last night and got a one-shot idea. It's also a bit lame, but I wanted to write something, so here's what ya get.)

I drew the cigarette away from my lips as I let smoke spill over them, mixing with crisp October night air.

My pocket radio was playing soft music, with drums, and flutes, and every other sweet sounding instrument, and it put my mind at ease.

Stars twinkled overhead, reflecting into the Black Lake, looking like a sharp of the sky had dropped onto the grounds of Hogwarts.

I took another draw from my cigarette as my girlfriend sat down beside me on the wide window sill, her hair dancing with the breeze.

I observed her as she sat there, gazing out at the grounds. Under her violet eyes were light bags, from lack of sleep, and her posture was slouched.

Exams really screwed with some people, especially if you spent most of your time picking on first years instead of focusing, which was Merula's situation.

It was clear nights like these that we were able to get a break from the buzz of Hogwarts in the daylight. We'd sit on this windowsill and smoke a couple cigarettes in complete silence, while the school slept on.

Sometimes Peeves would join us, talking our ears off.

Despite what people might think, it was relaxing. Peeves didn't expect us to respond like our teacher did, and we'd just get to listen to his crazy stories.

"I love this view," Merula mumbled, taking my pack of cigarettes and lighter from my black jacket.

"I do too," I agreed, tearing my eyes from the night sky to meet hers.

"Are you talking about me, or the actual view out there?" She smirked as she slipped a cigarette between her lips, and tried to light it, with difficulty.

"Here," I muttered, taking the lighter from her hands. "It's sticky."

I flicked it on after a couple tries and lifted it to her cigarette, lighting it for her. We didn't break eye-contact as she took a draw and released the smoke. I watched her with great interest, watched as her lips formed a beautiful smile.

"What?" Merula asked, raising an eyebrow at me.

"Nothing," I whispered, breaking eye-contact awkwardly as I took a long drag from my burning cigarette.

"I don't believe that," she mumbled, and I felt her cuddled up close to my side, and I wrapped an arm around her, embracing the affection.

I sighed, "I was just thinking," I paused, choosing my words carefully. "I'm so lucky to have you as my girl."

Merula let out a short laugh, and I gave her a questioning look. "What's so funny?" I asked.

"That's really cheesy," she giggled.

I shrugged. "I don't think so. I was trying to be sweet!"

"You tried," she mumbled into my shoulder. "And I'm tired. We should go back to the Common Room and get some sleep."

"Maybe," I sighed, rubbing my hand up and down her back. I didn't want to go back yet. I was too comfortable, the whimsical music playing, Merula leaning against me, and the cigarette in my hand all seemed too enticing to leave behind for the drudgery of real life. "Or maybe not," I finished.

Merula didn't answer for a moment, and the music came to a stop.

Now the only noise was the slight crackling of our cigarettes, and the gentle lapping of the waves beneath us. She stayed quiet, her breathing steady as the waves.

"Okay," Merula finally said, sitting up and extinguishing her cigarette on the stone windowsill. "Now let's go," she chuckled, standing up and giving me her hand which I grabbed, lifting myself off the sill, stretching my limbs as Merula grabbed the mini-radio and the pack of cigarettes.

"I am a little tired, just a little," I admitted quietly as we shuffled down the empty and dark hallways of Hogwarts.

As we quietly slunk down the staircase down into the dungeon, a looming shadow snuck up on us, making us freeze to the spot, on the last step.

"Miss Snyde," Snape muttered, glaring at her, under dark eyebrows. "Mx (Y/L/N)." His gaze shifted over to me, the look of disproval on his face increasing dramatically.

"Professor!" Merula burst, grabbing my hand instinctively.

Snape raised an eyebrow at her. "What are you two doing out so late?"

"We were..." I trailed off, looking sideways at Merula, who was much better at coming up with excuses than I was.

"Well sir," Merula began, and I could tell that the cogs in her head were turning. "We got word that some seven years from Gryffindor would be out looking for trouble, and we wanted to see if we could catch them in the act."

Snape stared at her for what felt like a very long time, and I was about to back her up when Snape finally replied with "Good. Ten points to Slytherin." And with that, he swept up the staircase and disappeared into the shadows.

"I knew Snape wouldn't miss a chance to give his house a couple extra points," Merula smirked, as we quietly snuck through the dungeon corridors and into the Slytherin Common Room, which was eerily empty,

The last bits of a raging fire crackled in the fireplace, releasing a faint orange glow that combated the murky green shine which shone in from the Black Lake behind the giant windows.

The dark outlines of the common room furniture seemed to pop out of the shadows and as Merula splayed herself down onto a large couch.

She blended right into the darkness, her shiny boots sticking out from the gloom.

"We need some light," I mumbled, and fumbled into my robe, and pulled out my slender black wander. "Lumos," I whispered, and the tip of the wand lit up in a heartbeat, and the room filled with silver-blue light.

"You're so good at magic," Merula grumbled from the couch, as she slapped a decorative pillow onto her face with a grunt. "I suck at it."

I lifted her feet off the couch, clearing a spot for me to sit. "Why don't you let me tutor you?"

Merula shrugged, taking the pillow off her face and chucking it to the ground before placing her feet into my lap casually.

"Because, that just lets everyone know that I'm not the great witch I claim to be," she mumbled, and I smiled.

No one has to know, Merula," I said, unlacing her combat boots as I spoke. "It'd just be you and me."

Merula made a thoughtful face, her eyes wandering around the room before finally landing on me. "Fine, I'll let you tutor me. But you can't tell anyone," she demanded. "No one."

"That's my girl," I mumbled, chucking her boots to the ground and giving her an endearing smile.
