"Don't trust words.
Even question their actions.
But don't doubt  the pattern."

***

Trust is something that builds over time, not something that can just appear out of the blue. In this world, people are conditioned to take advantage of others. You even have to think twice before trusting the people you are surrounded with.

Then comes the situation with Harry. Do I trust him enough to just make things exactly like they were before it all burnt to ashes?

How can he just show up in my life and make me trust him even when he's the least trusted person by every gang?

I groan as I sit back in my chair, fiddling with the pen in my hands.

Am I ready to risk everything and go against my people for someone who I barely know?

"Hey, what's up? You okay boss?" Louis' voice startles me and I drop the pen I was holding.

"Huh? Yea- yeah. Did you need something?"

"Icy, what is your brain on about this time?" he smiles as he sits down on the chair in front of me.

"Nothing. I'm just tired of all the contract shit. Salvage's contract and then the contract with Malevolent yada yada." I rub my eyes as I spin around in my chair.

My chair stops abruptly and I open my eyes to see Louis' face right in front of mine, his hands placed on the arms of the chair.

"Woah there..." I mutter as I furrow my eyebrows.

"Get up, you need a break. Let's go."

"What? No, I don't." I protest.

"Uh-uh. Yes, you do. Now get uppp!"

I can already tell that he's about to start throwing tantrum in 3... 2-

He takes deep breath and is about to speak but I beat him to it.

"You know what, fine. Where are we going?"

Maybe I do need a break. Even if I don't, I'm certainly not in a mood to deal with a 5 year old Lou right now.

"Wow that was fast... But yeah, you'll know when we're there."

With that, he turns away and starts walking out of the room, leaving me to follow him.

"Where to? Should I bring any weapon other than my handgun?" Chris asks as we're about to step out of the headquarters.

"Well, not needed since you're not coming with us." Louis answers nonchalantly.

"But he's my bodyguard. It's literally a part of his job." I interrupt.

"Sorry to question you, but are you doubting my skills, boss?" Louis asks while faking a hurt expression.

"Hell no. Tomlinson, have I ever before?"

"No. Well okay then, Chris can have a day off. Please?" Louis says with a huge grin.

He's not going to give up, is he?

"Okay... You're lucky I'm in a good mood today.. Chris, you can have the day off or you can train the new comers Louis was supposed to train today. Your choice."

"I'd like to train them only if Louis doesn't mind that is." Chris turns towards Louis who just shrugs and mutters a "sure" in response.

The sun is slowly setting as we sit on the sand and watch the waves of water calmly reach the shore.

So far, I'm not even sure how much alcohol we have consumed but it's enough to make me feel a bit tipsy.

"You know, Classic Tommo move to force me to take a break and get drunk whenever I need to get shit off of my mind." I slur as I take another sip from the bottle.

"Yeah well you can't say that it doesn't help, because it certainly does in your case."

"Okay, Mr. Sassy pants." I roll my eyes and he smiles at my remark.

"What's been on your mind though? I'm here to listen if you wanna talk."

"Nothing really. It's about trusting the onee and only Mr. Harry Stylesss."

"What about it?" he asks as he takes a another sip, staring at the sunset.

"How can I blindly trust him just like that, Lou? What if he is exactly like everyone makes him out to be?" I stare at the bottle in my hand as if it will answer my question.

"Well, isn't that how this is supposed to work? You have to let yourself trust someone in order for them to prove you right." He shrugs.

"But trust is something that builds over time, isn't it?"

"Definitely. You just met him; you can't just trust him with your life so soon. Especially with all of the rumors and his reputation... But then you can't just sign a contract and make things okay if you don't trust him to start with."

"Thanks, that reaallyy helped with my confusion, Lou." I deadpan.

"Icy, that's the thing you see... You can't act like you don't trust him at all when you're the one who is going against so many people to do this shit. But then deep down we both know that you can't trust him completely either." I just nod and take another swig as he puts my thoughts into words.

"So, I'd say, at least act like you trust him and go on with the contract. But keep an eye out for the shit he does and if something seems sketchy. If he even tries to make a move, bam! You blow his brains out, no questions asked."

"Okay then... makes sense I guess."

"This is life, people get betrayed by their close ones. You can't trust anyone in this world we live in. There are only a very few people we can trust blindly. Take us two as an example, you can only trust me with your life because we have literally spent our childhood together. You are well aware of the fact that I won't think twice before saving your life even if it requires sacrificing mine."

That's... kinda cute.? Great! now I feel like crying.

"Because apart from being my boss, I have always considered you my little sister. I considered you that from day one," he says as he takes the last swig from his bottle.

"Okay, stop acting cute ya little piece of shit. It's so out of your character!" I jokingly say to mask the part of me which wants to hug him and cry.

He's literally the closest thing I have left to family. And you bet your ass I wasn't going to let him sacrifice himself or do any of that shit for me.

That's the reason I hired Chris as my bodyguard even though Louis is the most skilled. The only reason Louis agreed on it and didn't fight me was because Chris was no less. Louis had trained Chris himself.

That's why Chris never questions whatever Louis tells him to do. He's always respectful and complies. And well, Louis can be a bit of a dick and use that to his advantage sometimes.

"Yeah, you tell anyone about the shit I just said and you'll be dead before you know it." He chuckles and gets up, wiping the sand off of his jeans.

"Is that a threat, Tomlinson?"

"Absolutely, Miss Cohen. Now get up, we have to go back before Liam sends out a search party for us," he gives me a hand and helps me get up.

Our time together today felt just like the old times. Whenever my father would be a bit too harsh during training, Louis would always find a way to get me out of the headquarters and go to some place just for a break.

I'm pretty sure Louis is and will always be the only person I can be this open and comfortable around.
