"You better run from me,
You better hit the road.
You better up and leave,
Don't get too close."***
"You ready to go?" Louis asks, entering the room after a soft knock.
"Yeah, almost." I look at his reflection through the mirror while putting on the other earring.
He gives me a once over and smiles, "You know, you look less ugly without those combat boots and leather jacket every once in a while."
"Thanks. Any news if he'll be there to attend this event?" I ask as I reach for my perfume.
"Not sure. They are saying that they sent an invitation but never heard back from him. It's been a good while since he was last seen, innit?"
"Nearly two months."
Louis frowns. "Weird, 'cause he couldn't seem to stay away from you more than two damn days and now he's just gone -poof - while that cute Irish deals with everything in his place."
"I don't know, neither do I care as long as his disappearance doesn't affect our shipments." I shrug.
But a small part of me can feel the disappointment creeping in on me once again.
How can you just ghost someone after they have been in their most vulnerable state in front of you?
After that day at the cemetery, Harry was nowhere to be seen. I even tried to reach out to him, but to no avail. I can't believe some stupid part of me thought that just because we shared a moment by mistake, I could trust him to be there for me.
The oh so cold and strong Irene Cohen just got fooled into thinking that she can be vulnerable with someone without consequences?
Fuck me.
"I'm sure you don't. If you don't mind me asking, did something happen between you two the last time you saw him?" Louis' voice drags me out of my thoughts.
"What-- No." I turn towards him, "You think his disappearance has something to do with me?"
"Naah, just making sure I won't stumble on an unmarked grave somewhere. Let's go?"
I nod and both of us make our way out, Chris and Liam join us once we reach the outside of the headquarters.
On our way there, Liam breaks the comfortable silence between the four of us by saying,
"So, do you guys remember this territory we are going to?"
"I don't" I say at the same time as Louis says, "Damn right I do."
"How can you forget? This is the same territory where you broke the guy's arm and got us in trouble all those years ago!"
Oh. Nice.
"I never bothered to remember the gang by name." I shrug, "Will the past be a problem, Liam?"
"I don't think so. Lets just hope the leader isn't the kind to hold grudges," he smiles.
Louis interrupts, "He obviously can't do shit. She isn't some brat anymore --no offense-- she is the leader, they have to follow her no matter what."
"Ahan.. thanks Lou," I say in mock offense.
He smirks, "Anytime, Icy."
"We're here," Chris says after a few minutes.
As we step out of the car, I take a look at the venue and turn to Liam, "Remind me why we are here again?"
