Chapter 14: The Village of the Forgetful and the Demon

As Usamaro was looking through the box he then found a book.

"Hey! " He shouted at Rin.

"Hmm? " Rin hummed while not looking up from his paper. Usamaro sighed as he got up and walked towards Rin. He nudged him with the book. Rin looked over to him.

"What does this thing say? " Usamaro asked while holding up the book. Rin went wide eyed.

"No way, look at that. My old man used to read this to me, (Y/N), and my brother when we were kids. " Rin said as he took the book and opened it. This peaked your interest as you walked over to him and leaned against his shoulders. As Rin began to flip through the pages, Usamaro sat down on his lap. The three of you then began to read the book.

"Okay. Once upon a time, on the outskirts of a tiny village, a demon appeared. A little boy from the village, found him, saw he was weak from hunger, and gave him something to eat. When the demon felt better, he and the boy began to play. Before you know it, the demon moved into the village.The villagers played with him too. They played and played and forgot about their work and chores. One day, an exorcist appeared, saw what was going on and sealed the demon. But it was too late, even though the demon was gone, the villagers forgot all about their home. It fell into ruin and... Disappeared. " Rin read out loud.

"That's a lie! This story is a lie! " Usamaro exclaimed as he looked at you and Rin. Usamaro hopped off Rin's lap.

"It's all a big fat lie!! None of it is true! " He grabbed the book and slammed it onto the floor. You looked at him worriedly. Rin looked at him in awe.

"What's your problem? Aw man, my dad gave me this book. Why do you wanna go and ruin people's things for? It's not cool. " Rin complained. You looked at Usamaro, as he panted.

"It's not true what the book said about the village, is it? " Usamaro said with sad eyes.

"Usamaro... " You muttered while looking at him. It hurt seeing him upset.

"I don't know, I mean it's just a story." Rin said while looking at the book. Usamaro began to walk towards the bed with a sad expression. He sat down with his knees to his chest while closing his eyes. Rin looked at him curiously as he went back to his studies. After a while, you saw Usamaro falling asleep. You sighed as you walked over to him and sat down. You wrapped your arms around him, pulling him closer. Usamaro looked at you for a moment as you gave him a small smile. He instantly went back to sleep. Rin continued to struggle doing his work as he held his head in frustration. Rin turned around and looked at him.

"Hey, time to go to sleep. " Rin smiled. Usamaro looked up as he rubbed his eyes and got out of your embrace. He began heading towards the cage while yawning. Rin looked at him and smiled as he then said,

"Nah, you can sleep in my bed if you want. " Usamaro looked up at him questionably.

"Aren't you going to sleep too? " He asked.

"Nah, I got a quota to meet, so I gotta keep cranking until I do. " Rin complained. You looked over to Rin while stretching.

"I'll stay up with you till you finish. " You yawned. Rin shook his head.

"I think it'd be best if you went to sleep (Y/N). " Rin chuckled.

"But aren't you sleepy? " Usamaro asked. You nodded in agreement with.

"Well yeah, but I gotta finish my homework first. " Rin pointed out. Usamaro looked at him.

"If you didn't have homework, could you go to sleep then? " Usamaro said with an interested look.

"Yeah, of course. " Rin said. You nodded.

"Yeah so you can't be slacking off. " You said sleepily.

"So you're wishing your homework could go away so you could go asleep right!? " Usamaro beamed.

"Well, yeah. I guess you could say that. " Rin replied. You looked over to them confusingly. Usamaro's eyes then began to glow.

"Anyway, you better get to bed and I'm gonna get back to work. " Rin said nonchalantly. You and Rin opened your eyes while looking at each other. Rin turned towards Usamaro, who was smiling at him.

"Guess I'll hit the sack! " Rin grinned.

"Great! We'll hit the sack together then! " Usamaro exclaimed as he climbed onto Rin. He jumped on his lap happily. You and Rin began to laugh. You stood up.

"Well, I guess I'll go to my room then. " You yawned. Rin and Usamaro looked at you.

"No! I thought we were all gonna hit the sack together." The small demon pouted. Rin smiled at you.

"Come on. I'm pretty sure we all fit! " Rin grinned. You blushed.

"Alright. I guess. " You mumbled shyly. Usamaro beamed as he hopped off Rin and ran towards you.

"Yay! " Usamaro smiled as he hugged you.

*Time Skip*

Yukio walked into the room while looking at his phone. As he looked over to Rin's bed, he saw you and Rin sleeping together with the child in between. Usamaro slept upside down while having his legs around Rin's head. Rin began to toss and turn as he slept on his back, having the child sleep on his stomach. Meanwhile you scooted closer to Rin for warmth. Yukio's eyes went wide.

"Why is he out of the cage? " Yukio whispered as he began to look around. He saw the old book from before as he began to walk towards it. As he began to flip through the pages, someone spoke.

"Brings back memories huh? " Rin said. Yukio looked over to him.

"It's been so long, I forgot. Even though the old man read it to us a million times. " Rin smiled while sitting up, leaving the child to cuddle up to you.

"Why'd you let him out of the cage? " Yukio asked sternly. Rin looked at him.

"You're supposed to watch him, not play with him. You're unbelievable, did you even finish your homework for today?" Yukio scolded. Rin looked at him questionably.

"What homework? " Rin asked.

"I knew it. Do you have any idea of the kind of situation you're in! You didn't do any of the things you were supposed to do! Watch him, do your homework, that's it! " Yukio exclaimed.

"God, shut up! "Rin scowled. He got off of the bed and took Usamaro, while making sure to not wake you. He then got into the cage.

"There, now he's back in the cage. " Rin said firmly as he gently laid Usamaro down.

"Wha-" Yukio sighed as he walked over to you and pulled the blanket over you. He then walked to his desk and grabbed his suitcase.

"When the festival is over, we're sealing that demon. Till then, better not let him out of your sight. " Yukio said as he walked out. Rin glared at the door.

"Whatever, all sweating me about homework I don't have. " Rin grumbled. Usamaro opened his eyes slightly, having a worried expression.
