Dazai dropped the bundle of papers onto his desk and looked out the window.
"Dazai, what's wro-" Kunikida stopped as he looked at Dazai. He's never seen him like this before. Dazai's face spelled out 'Concern' clearly and his fingers kept twitching in mid-air.
"Kunikida-kun," Dazai said softly. "Did you feel that?"
"Feel what?"
"It felt like... something must've happened...... excuse me a bit, I'm going out."
It had been four hours since the group left on the investigation. Dazai took his trench coat off the chair and wore it.
"Wait," Kunikida got up. "I'm coming too. Who knows where you might disappear off to if I let you go alone."
The two gentlemen walked out of the building and onto the quiet street. They walked quite a bit, Dazai leading them as if he knew exactly where he wanted to go, and Kunikida grumbling beside him. After minutes of walking and Dazai occasionally running forward, they got to the sweet shop where he had bumped into Chuuya and left him and the others to the investigation this morning.
"Kunikida-kun," Dazai asked. "They said they were going into an alley; do you happen to know which one?"
"Mm..." Kunikida thought for a moment. "Mori-san did say something about an alley, and he said there was someone who could lead them there. But I'm not quite sure which one."
Dazai looked away concerned. He brought his hand to his chin and thought where the group could have gone to, when...
"Dazai-san!" Higuchi was carrying herself towards them. She was bruised on her face and panting heavily, her legs didn't do her any good either. Before she was able to reach Dazai and Kunikida, she collapsed, but before she could hit the ground, Dazai caught her.
"What's wrong?! What happened?" Kunikida questioned frantically, while taking Higuchi's other arm around his neck.
"Ha- Hana-san..." Higuchi took in deep breaths. "She- she betrayed... us... Ats-Atsushi-kun and Ky... they were taken... they were taken away. Sh- Chuuya-san got stabbed a few- three times..."
With that, Dazai's eyes widened. He took Higuchi by her shoulders, "was it deep? Where did they go?"
"I- I shot a tracker onto the v- van." She pulled out a small monitor from her back pocket, it showed a map and on it was a small red dot moving along the banks of the river.
"Higuchi-san, take us to the alley way you were in." Kunikida helped her onto her feet and they started walking towards the place Chuuya and the others were attacked. They made it to the bookstore and walked down the shadowy corridor of the alley. This was the perfect place to attack someone, why didn't anyone realise that? Dazai wondered, when, a small object lying on the ground in front of them caught his eye. Dazai instantly ran towards it, and picked it up.
"Chuuya..." Dazai muttered as he held the redhead's hat in his hand. It must have fallen off when they took them away.
"Dazai..." Dazai turned to see Kunikida's alarmed face. Dazai wondered why Kunikida had such a look on his face when his hands suddenly felt wet and something started dripping from the hat. He turned his face to the hat and realised it was coated with blood, at least only the bottom rim was. Dazai's heart started to race as he finally realised what he was standing in.
He stood right in the middle of a dark red puddle; blood... Chuuya's blood. Shocked and angry Dazai pulled Kunikida's hand.
"Come on, let's go." Dazai called Kunikida.
"Wait Dazai!" Kunikida helped Higuchi onto her feet. "Higuchi-san, go inform the Port Mafia of this. Dazai, let's head back to the agency. Going in unprepared and empty handed wouldn't guarantee anyone's safety."
As much as Dazai didn't like it, it was true. They didn't even know how big the enemy group was. Dazai walked off behind Kunikida, while Higuchi ran towards the Port Mafia Headquarters.
"Let's hope they're safe," Kunikida prayed, as they walked back into the agency.
