the night of the festival~

3rd POV:

The moon was bright and there wasn't a single cloud in the sky. It was perfect for tonight's festival. Almost everyone in Gravity Falls was there and everyone was having a fun time. People were chatting and playing under the night sky as they waited for the singing competition to start. Dipper was up first, and he was hiding behind the curtain on the stage he was about to perform on.

Mabel was in front of the stage, waiting for the show to start when Wendy came over. "Hey Mabel!" she said, coming up from behind her.

"Oh, hey Wendy!" Mabel said, smiling, "Sorry we didn't get to talk a lot yesterday, I wanted to catch up with Candy, Grenda, and Pacifica."

"It's ok Mabel, I totally get it." Wendy said, shrugging it off, "So are you going to compete in the competition?"

"Nope!" Mabel replied, "Dipper is!"

"Dipper? As in your brother Dipper?!" Wendy asked, shocked.

"The one and only!" Mabel said with a smile.

"I know Dipper likes to sing, but you do know that Dipper isn't really into these sorts of things, right?" Wendy said.

"Well yeah," Mabel said, "but Dipper has been down in the dumps lately because of his nightmares of 'you know who'. And I think this is the perfect way to help him get all the stress out!"

"If you say so." Wendy shrugged and was about to leave.

"Wait, Wendy!" Mabel said as she grabbed Wendy's shirt.

"Yeah?"

"Could you talk to Dipper a bit, I'm sure he's a little nervous about all this. Just tell him that it'll be alright." Mabel said.

"You got it," Wendy said with a smile and a thumbs up.

Wendy went backstage and saw Dipper pacing around and chewing his nails as he thought of all the terrible things that could go wrong.

He was wearing a long sleeve blue button-up dress shirt with a no-sleeve white vest, black pants, and black dress shoes.

Mabel and her friends had helped him pick out the perfect song and outfit. All Dipper needed to do was sing and it would all be over. He didn't care if he won or not, he just wanted to get this over with. But that didn't mean he wasn't still nervous.

"What if the music randomly stops playing?!" Dipper thought, "Or the microphone suddenly stops working?!"

"Hey Dipper!" Wendy said, letting Dipper know that she was there.

"Wendy! You're- you're here?!" Dipper asked nervously.

"Uh, yeah. Why wouldn't I be?" Wendy said, smiling as she came closer to Dipper.

"No! It's not that I don't want you here, it's just that-" Wendy cut him off.

"Dipper, calm down." Wendy said, "I'm just here to chat."

Dipper took a deep breath in and let it out, "Ok, so what are you here backstage for?"

"Mabel told me that you've been down in the dumps lately," Wendy said.

"Oh, um..." Dipper said as looked down at the ground.

"Is it those nightmares?" Wendy asked as she came over and put her arm around his shoulder.

"Umm," Dipper wondered aloud if he should tell Wendy, but finally gave in, "Yes actually. But I just can't help it! They just won't go away, and I have a BAD feeling that- that he's gonna come back! I'm so scared knowing that I can't do anything about it! What if- what if he-"
