BY THE TIME ADRIA GRANT HAD PEDALED HER WAY TO THE CHATEAU, IT WAS ALREADY LATE MORNING. John B hopefully had already dropped off the tanks at the Cameron boat before anyone realized they were missing. If anyone knew he took them, he would definitely get fired. Working on that boat was his only source of income since his dad was gone, and he needed to be able to eat.

She felt horrible for John B. No one her age should be going through what he is, worrying if they had enough money to buy food. Adria had even offered him coming to stay with her and her mom, so DCS could get off of his back. He brushed her off, saying that this is his home and he needed to be here when his dad came back. She knew after nine months, it was unlikely his dad was coming back. John B probably knows that too, but he had to keep the hope alive that his dad would find his way back to him or else he would go insane.

Leaning her bike up against the side of the house, she walked onto the porch and was about to go into the house when a piece of paper stamped onto the outside stopped her. She ripped the paper off of the house and read the contents of it, letting out a small sigh. It was a summons notice from DCS, saying if a parent or guardian didn't claim him in the next few days, he would be sent to foster care. She was about to go and yell at John B for saying he had DCS 'handled' when loud footsteps made their way up to the porch, making her turn around.

"Morning, princess. What's that?" JJ smiled at her, taking the paper from her hands. Adria crossed her arms as he frowned, watching him read over the notice.

"That's not good." JJ mumbled, giving the paper back to her as she raised her eyebrows.

"You think?" She told him, watching him go over to the window that was behind the couch. A smirk went over his face, and he raised a finger to his lips, signaling for Adria to be quiet. He moved away from the window and began to bang on the outside of the house with his fist loudly.

"DCS, I know you're in there!" JJ yelled, dropping his voice an octave. Adria let out a small smile as she watched him jump in front of the window, probably scaring John B half to death. JJ laughed hysterically as he imitated John B's scared expression, barely being able to get the words out. He moved away from the window and towards Adria, who was shaking her head.

"That was mean." Adria told him, a small smile on her face. He pushed his blonde hair out of his face, looking down to her small frame.

"Yeah, but you thought it was funny." He responded, to which Adria rolled her eyes and walked into the house. John B was sitting with his legs hanging off of the pull out bed, running his hands through his messy hair.

"What the hell is this?" Adria asked as she walked into the house, handing him the paper. As soon as he saw the bold font at the top of the page, he let out a sigh, crumbling up that paper and throwing it on the floor. He got up from the bed and walked into the kitchen, clearly trying to avoid the conversation he was about to have.
