Let's try this again folks!
Narrators POV
America's feet pounded on the cement as he ran down the sidewalk. The cool morning air bit sharply at his exposed skin as he moved quickly. His hand gripped his bag's strap tightly, trying to ensure that it didn't slip off as he ran. He huffed out breaths of air, all while muttering, "Shit, shit, shit, shit."
On any normal day, being late to school was something that didn't bother America. But last night his friend Germany sent him a text saying that he needed his help and to get to the school early. No way was he letting him down, despite the fact he overslept.
America spotted a figure by the gated entrance of the school, the yellow skin of their arms and hands, plus the red and black strips across the countries head, told him who it was. He allowed himself to slow down, changing his pace to a casual walk. No way he was going to lose his calm demeanor or his reputation for it. Pushing back his sunglasses, America gave a smug smile with a half-wave as a greeting to his friend.
"Mornin' Germany!"
Germany turned to face America. He smiled upon recognizing the country, greeting him the same, "Guten Morgen, America."
America noticed that Germany looked more dressed up than he usually did. His white dress shirt was ironed out and neatly tucked into his formal dress pants. To match his look, he had dress shoes and a black tie. He was fancied up compared to himself, only wearing a black NATO shirt, ripped jeans, and white vans.
"Ger-man, " America leaned against the gate and crossed his arms, "you didn't have to get all dressed up for me~. Your cute enough as it is."
Germany rolled his eyed and playfully shoved America. "Schut up, vu know I'm tryink to himbress Boland."
America nodded with his usual stupid smile, and the two walked into the gates of the school. Germany's accent was funny to hear, according to America. It made him pronounce words in English weird. Either way, he was still understood.
Other countries walked past the two, all talking amongst themselves. Everyone tended to break off into their own groups during the school day, so this was some countries chance to talk to certain countries before school started. Like it was for Germany and America, who had few classes together.
"I know, I know. When are you going to ask him out, you've been making goo-goo eyes at him forever!"
"America, hucsh!" Germany quickly tried to cover the taller countries mouth, but ultimately failed. He nervously looked around them to make sure no one heard what his obnoxiously loud friend had said. Or, in his eyes, what he practically yelled to the world.
"Ahh come on, it's not like everyone doesn't know." He pushed Germany off of him and they continued to walk into the school. Most countries ignored their conversation, minding their own business. And he was right anyhow, in that if anyone overheard nothing would change. Everyone knew about Germany's crush by then. Almost everyone, that is.
"I'm surprised Poland doesn't know by now."
"What don't I know?"
Germany practically yelled when be heard that familiar voice and accent.
"Poland, wassup, man?" America raised his hand for a high five, which was his normal greeting. Poland, used to this as much as everyone else, high five America and politely repeated himself, then waited for someone to answer his question.
"Uhhh, v-v-vell, vell, vu zee, America vas just talkink apout, vell, how he sinks zat not a lot of countries know apout zee, um, zee, .. " Germany babbled on with a clear red hue across his cheeks. He looked up at America to save him from his embarrassing ramble and obviously failed attempt at trying to keep it cool.
