a/n welcome back to the show! so how is quarantine going? you better be staying inside or else what the fuck has this all been for? honestly i've just been playing video games. but i miss writing and writing fanfiction so i will be writing more of this and some other fanfics that will becoming soon so look out for that. so in this chapter we have more adrien and marinette content, kagami comes back, alya is getting closer to finding out the truth, and gabriel bring a dick. the title is taken from cruel summer by taylor swift because i love taylor more then i love anything. i was going to do a song from folklore but that it really fit with the chapter so maybe later. any way i hope you enjoy this chapter. again please don't leave any comments about the stories errors. i know they are. i don't edit this story because i don't want to. thanks byeeeeeee
Adrien put on a fake smile as he stood next to his father. It was hot outside and even though his clothes weren't heavy, he still felt like he was sweating buckets. His eyes kept looking around, trying to see something interesting to keep himself from falling asleep. He hated these types of events. Parties that were just for the rich people who were invested or considering investing in his father's businesses and mainly just to brag about their success. Lila loved these parties and honestly it seems fitting. When they were together he would excuse her behavior by saying that Lila just like low key parties but in reality unless Adrien was there to be her arm candy, she didn't want to be there.
"Thank you all for coming," his father said, grabbing a glass of champagne from a tray the waiter was holding and raised it up. "Let us celebrate the progress we have made." Adrien saw Alya jokingly quote his father in the crowd and he held back a laugh. The rest of the crowd raised their glasses, cheering. He began to walk off but his father grabbed his arm and whispered in his ear, "This is a big event for me. Stay on your best behavior or else." Gabriel let go of his son arm and put on a smile as if he hadn't threaten his own son.
Adrien let out sigh before walking through the crowd. People gave him kind smile and some small talk which went along the lines of 'We heard you had some hard times' which was their way of saying 'Sorry you're depressed'. No one ever really wanted to talk about the truth at these parties. They would just dance around the topic in a way that seemed like they cared even in reality they really didn't and didn't want to hear about your problems. Adrien smiled and say thank you before walking away.
"No offense Adrien but your dad sucks," Alya said when he arrived at the table. She took a gulp of champagne before waving another waiter over. Adrien raised an eyebrow and Max laughed.
"She's upset that he won't let her go out looking for more of the cells that we found," he explained.
"I'm sorry that we are close to discovering something new but our boss wants someone else to take over." She explained. "I've worked here for three years and have shown that I am a great worker but no apparently I'm not smart enough to do it." Alya placed her head on the table and sighed. "Its not fair."
"I'm sorry Al," Adrien said, patting her on the back. "I've stopped wondering why my dad is such a dick years ago." He looked around the party to see if Marinette had shown up. He had invited her a couple days ago but over the past couple of days had been distancing herself for him. Maybe he had misread everything but he thought that they had something. Maybe he had just been a too strong.
"Looking for your girlfriend?" Kim teased, coming up behind and gave him a strong squeeze.
"She isn't my girlfriend," Adrien said. "She's just a friend."
"Sure," he responded jokingly before going over to Max and wrapping his arm around him. "Who is this girl anyway?"
"Her name is Marinette and she came literally out of nowhere and automatically set her sights on Adrien." Alya said. Adrien gave her a glare. "I'm sorry but I just her or her friend. Plus Adrien has terrible taste in women."
