What do I wear to the gala? It's in 4 days! I rummage through my wardrobe to find the best dress I have... and I find none worthy! All these pretty dresses but they're not fit to be worn to a gala... my first gala! I want to wear something that shouts me! Me in a dress!

I dial Leila, my personal shopper, at Selfridges and ask her to pick a few dresses for me worthy to be worn to a gala. I heard there are going to be models, industrialists and actors there, I need to look my best. Literally nobody cares about me... like who am I? I give into my thoughts for a while and abandon my thoughts of getting a dress... but then I pick myself up. I'm Akira, I may not be a big deal to the world but hey, I'm a big deal to myself and... my mom. With that in mind, I head to Selfridges to have a look at the dresses Leila picked for me.

"It's beautiful, yes, but do you have anything more detailed? I want my mind to be blown!" I exclaim at the dress Leila is holding up for me.

I spend the next hour just going through dresses but I don't seem to like any. Not one. I feel guilty for the time Leila invested so I purchase a few tops for work and head back home.

Damn... I still don't have a dress! The gala is in 3 days! 3!

I get immersed in work for the next few hours and keep the thought of going to the gala away but the minute I shut my laptop, I'm back to thinking about the gala... again!

I give my mom aka my unpaid advisor a quick call to talk about the gala.

"Why don't you make your own dress?" says my mom with a puzzled look on her face

Why don't I make a dress? Because the gala is in 3 days and I'm not a wizard to make a couture dress worthy of being worn to such a grand event in such a short period of time. Duh.

"Mom, that's impossible. There's no way I can make a dress of my own in 3 days!"

"Well, this is a gala attended by a lot of influential people... do you not want people to see your work and talent for themselves? You've worn others designs to events before for PR and increased their sales as an influencer, why can't you do the same for yourself?"

Damn.. she's right. Why didn't I think of this before? But I just have 3 days... that's not even enough time to make a sketch!!

"But mommy, the time is extremely limited!" I whine

"Just give it your best shot and keep a dress as your backup choice. If you're unable to make a dress of your own, then go ahead and wear your backup plan!"

"Thanks mom!" Isn't she the best?

My mom's given me a way but it's on me to execute it. Goooo Aki! I cheer for myself.
