Struggle

Ellie's P.O.V

I sigh looking at the view

"Jesus! How the hell are we crossing this?" Jesse says looking at the distance.
"We can use that road." I point.
"It's pretty fucking far." Valentina says.
"Or we use that." Jesse says looking down at a boat.
"Yeah. That's better." I say also looking down.

Valentina crouches and looks at the boat.

"Come on. This way." Jesse taps her shoulder.

Valentina gets up and follows behind him.

Valentina's P.O.V

After a few, we find a rope leading up somewhere. We go up the rope and are on elevated ground. I was the last  one to climb up. When I reached up I saw Ellie crouching and looking forward. I walked to her and saw what she was seeing.
"Son of a bitch!" A guy yelled trying to turn on his motor.

"Girls." Jesse whispered at us.

We both went to him.

"We can get to the Marina through here." He says.
"No. We're taking their boat." Ellie points to the direction of the man still trying to revive his engine.
"You heard them right? They're talking about Tommy."
"We don't know that." Ellie disagrees
"Who else is it going to be?"
"If it is him, he'll be gone by the time we get there." Ellie scoffs.

"Abby is where he'll be headed. So if we just fall-"
"What if he's in trouble?" Jesse asks.
"He can take care of himself."
"Jesus Christ." Jesse turns away from Ellie.
"The best way to help Tommy is to go after Abby."

There was a pause.

"What do you think Val?" Jesse asks me.
"Oh.. Well.." I think for a moment.

"I think Ellie is right. If we go after Abby then-"
"Fucking.." Jesse mumbles.
"We can be backup for Tommy. Then nothing bad will happen to him."
"Are you serious?" Jesse questions me.
"Uhh.."
"You do this, I'm not saving your ass again." Ellie looks at him with a straight face.
"I really hope you make it." Jesse says looking at Ellie.

"I expected better from you." He looked at me then he walked away.

Ellie and I look at him go. Then Ellie shakes her head and walks toward the man still trying to turn on his engine. I stay still looking down slowly.

"Val forgot him. Let's go get Abby's ass."
"Yeah." I snap out of it and follow Ellie.

We both drop down to the cold water. It takes us a minute but after we bring down the all Scars present we hop on the boat. Ellie tries to revive it but it doesn't. I sit down spaced out but brought back to reality when I hear people shout.

"You're dead! She's taking the boat!" A man shouts.
"Shit!" Ellie yells.

But as soon as she tried again it turns on,"yes!" She yells.

I grab on tight keeping my head low. Gunshots are released after us.

"Steady." Ellie says looking for a way out.

We keep riding.

"Okay. No one's following." Ellie says.
"Good." I say bringing my head up.
"Right. Where's the Ferris Wheel?"

I say about 10 minutes later, we face a closed gate. Ellie went to look for a way to open it while I stayed in the boat as lookout. When she figured it out she stepped in and kept driving.

"Here we go." Ellie said.

I sat next to her shivering. I guess she looked at me because she signaled me to get closer. I got closer to her and she put an arm around me.
"Thanks Ellie." I say.
"Yeah." She whispered back.

I leaned on her feeling her warmth. We stayed like that without saying anything for two minutes when I hear the waters moving harshly.

"What's that?"
"Hang on. This might be a rough ride." Ellie simply said.

She took her hand off me but I was still next to her. We passed through just fine.

"Are you kidding me?" Ellie said annoyed.

The engine turned off.

"Come on." I say.

Ellie got up and tried to turn it back on. After three tries it works.
"Got it." She said.

13 minutes later

*Whistling*
"Down here!" A woman yells.
"Dammit." Ellie says.
Gunshots are heard.
"Get down!" Ellie pushes me to the ground and she lands on me.

I was looking at her but she was looking at the Scars.

"God dammit!"
"Annihilate them!"
"Fuck!"
"Incoming!" A man yells.

I see fire thrown over here and there.

"Oh god." Ellie says.

They weren't shooting at us. Was Ellie using this as an excuse to climb on me or was she confused as well? I have no idea. We keep driving the boat without being unnoticed.

"Of course. It would've been too easy." Ellie said looking at a closed gate.
"Okay. Let's find a way." I say.

We both go inside looking around. I find a cart and push it so I can use it. As I am pushing it, I hear the floor cracking under my feet.

"Ahhh!" I yell falling under and landing on the broken wood plank.
"Valentina!" Ellie yells.
"I'm okay!" I yell.

I look around and see a bloater feeding on a corpse.

"No I'm not okay!" I shout in fear.

The Bloater roared or whatever it just did. Ellie came down with me.
"Fuck." She said.

"God damn Bloaters!" Ellie shouted as we ran away from it.

"Wondered wether you fucks were in seattle!"

We both kept running away from it as it made loud noises behind us.

"Oh shit!" I yelled.

Ellie threw a molotov at it. The Bloater roared louder. I started shooting at it. Both Ellie and I were shooting at it with everything we got. Runners started showing up.

"Got you asshole!" Ellie yelled when the Bloater fell to the ground.

I shot the rest of the runners while Ellie was making a health kit.

"Shit." Ellie said out of breath.
"Okay. Let's get up there now." I say also out of breath.
"Kay. Back to that damn Ferris Wheel."

"Finally!" Ellie said pulling the chain down..
"Tell me about it." I said on the boat.
"Okay. Done." She said hopping back in.
"Looks like this will be a bit unsteady." I point out.
"Yeah. Almost there." She says driving the boat.

I look up at the tall buildings as we pass them. We go under a bridge and I look up ahead.

"Aw come on." I say.
"What?"
"I hate the ocean. It scares me."
"Well shit."

I hold on tight as we cross the huge waves made by the ocean.

Ellie gets up.

"What's wrong?" I ask.
"Uh.." Ellie tries four times to turn the engine on.
"Fuck!" I yell and point at a gigantic wave coming at us.
"Oh fuck-"

The wave hit us making the boat turn over. We fell in the water without any chance to hold out breath.

I struggled to get to the surface. But when I did I gasped for air and looked for Ellie. She came up and gasped for air.
"Fuck it. We can make it!" She yelled.
"Are you su-" Another wave covered over us.

We both came up and kept swimming toward the Ferris Wheel.

"Agh!" I yelled as another wave came in.

We climbed over something to get to shore.
"Oh god oh god."
"We did it." I coughed.
"You okay?" Ellie asks.
"Yea. I just almost drowned. But nothing to be worried about." I say.

Ellie chuckles.

"Okay. Let's do this." She says.
