Disappointing my mother

"Hello Annabeth, what on earth are you doing in my apartment?"
Normally Percy would never have been rude to anyone. Much less a lady. His mom has instilled in him that politeness is the way to go. Especially with all the trouble he got into. In high-school he learned quickly that you're much more likely to get out of detention if you go out of your way to be polite. However he figured that his mama wouldn't be too disappointed considering a stranger was in his apartment.
"What do you mean your apar—"
Annabeth was cut off by the sound of the door creaking. Both of them whirled around to see the front door swing in and a blonde boy walk through with a box in his hands.
"Uhh... who's this?" The guy looked as confused as Percy felt, but to be fair so did Annabeth.
Percy almost laughed picturing the scene. Three millennials in an apartment standing there looking at each other with confusion. He thought they had to have looked like the spiderman meme. Percys mind often wandered due to his ADHD but he had to give himself credit. They truly must have looked like the meme.
"Um, Hey. I'm Percy and this is supposed to be my apartment," he took out his keys from his pocket and showed them off "at least that's what Leo told me."
"I'm Luke and I'm confused."
Annabeth cut in, "That makes three of us, I'm gonna call Piper and ask her what's up."
As Annabeth walked to the other side of the living room to make the call, the only thought Percy had was why couldn't my life be simple for once. He would have preferred to be almost anywhere but there. He absolutely could not stand awkward situations and this was about as awkward as they come. Luckily he didn't have to stand in dead silence too long because Luke tilted his head over to the corner and walked over. Percy followed. Oh boy, Percy thought, now instead of feeling awkward in the middle of the room, I feel awkward in the corner!
     "Uhh?"
Wow, Percy sure has a way with words.
"This is gonna sound really cringey and I hope I don't sound like a jerk, but can you kind of just let Annabeth be? We all know that you were both promised the apartment, and nobody in their right mind is going to give up an apartment with free rent in New York. She's been through a lot, and at this point she's family to me. Please treat her nicely."
Percy blinked. Did Luke seriously think that if and when he has to share the apartment, because being completely honest free rent is free rent and he wasn't going to be picky, he was going to treat his roommate like crap? Percy may have liked a prank every now and then, but he isn't out here kicking puppies. Just as he opened his mouth to reply Luke turned around to talk to Annabeth.
"I gotta go Annie! I'll check in later!"
Annabeth waved him off and watched him leave as she hung up her phone.
"So, what did Piper say?"
Annabeth sighed.
"She said that she was boarding the plane to Rome and that we needed to figure it out ourselves. Listen, I'm really sorry but I need this apartment," Annabeth turned red, " I'm willing to share though..."
"Sure. I'm broke as hell and have no place to go anyways. Want help unpacking?"
And with that Percy and Annabeth worked their way through each other's boxes in silence. Being honest, Percy despised silence. He found the tension annoying and decided to break it.
"So...are you okay?"
Annabeth dropped her box. Percy hoped nothing fragile was in there.
"Am I okay? What did Luke tell you??"
"No, no he didn't say anything I-"
"You know what forget it, I'll talk to you later Percy."
Annabeth walked to her new room and left Percy as confused as ever.
