Percy had to admit, asking Annabeth if she was okay was pretty dumb. And Percy had made his fair share of dumb decisions. Honestly though, was it really his fault? He was only trying to be polite, and he couldn't have predicted her reacting this badly. For the past two days, Annabeth had been giving Percy the silent treatment. When he asked, "What are you, five?" She locked herself in her room for the rest of the night, so maybe she was five.
Percy's mind was working overtime. He seriously hated when people were mad at him. Maybe it was growing up with Gabe for a stepfather, but either way he learned that when people were mad at him he got hurt one way or another so now he was just waiting for the other show to drop. Percy had already downed a can of Cola but just couldn't get a handle on his nerves. Well only one thing left to do, he thought to himself. Percy pulled out his electric guitar and plugged it into the amp. After making sure everything was in order he started playing.
This guitar was Percys pride and joy. He asked his mom for it when he was twelve but never expected to actually get it. See his mom, Sally, was very into not making Gabe angry. There was no quicker way to making Gabe angry than spending money on his step son and having his poker games interrupted with loud noises. So when his mom bought him the exact blue electric guitar he wanted when he was twelve for his fifteenth birthday, he made sure to cherish it. He taught himself by playing it without an amp when Gabe was asleep on the couch. Playing it allowed his mind to wander and had never failed to calm him down.
In fact, Percy was so far into his own thoughts that he didn't realize Annabeth was there until she grabbed him by his shoulder. Percy nearly jumped out of his skin.
"Oh my god! Why would you do that!"
Annabeths face was set in a scowl.
"What do you mean 'why would I do that?'! You're the one playing electric guitar when people are trying to study for college!"
Percy's face went red. If Annabeth didn't hate him before, she definitely hated him now.
"I'm so sorry! I didn't realize you were even here and I never meant to—"
"Never meant to do what," Annabeth cut him off, "never meant to act like a complete and total idiot? Is your head filled with seaweed? Is that what happened to you, seaweed brain?"
"There's no need to be rude..." Percy mumbled. He thought about what Annabeth said and quite honestly, it made him angry. Who the hell was she to say anything to him? She didn't know him at all!
"And if you didn't cut me off or just listened for a moment you would have heard me trying to apologize!!"
Percy was about to continue when he heard Annabeth's stomach growl. He wanted to laugh, but he was hungry too. It was seven pm and he only had a can of soda since one. So instead of laughing, Percy settled for raising his eyebrows at her. Now it was Annabeth's turn to blush.
"Sorry, I didn't eat since breakfast, I guess I hyper fixated."
"ADHD?"
Annabeth nodded.
"And Dyslexia," Annabeth added.
"Same ahaha, Neurodivergent squad!"
Annabeth chuckled a bit which made Percy feel a bit better.
"We should get some food"
Annabeth stares at him.
"We're broke."
"Well then we can make something. It can't be that hard."
