In the small country of Eshon a competition was held every year. This competition would consist of a sixteen year old from every town in the country, to be gathered and thrown into an arena. These competitors would then have to survive weeks of gruesome murder from their peers. They would also have to survive the rough terrain of the arena that they were thrown into. Not to mention, the "Special surprises," that the government left for them.
The government thought that this would be the best way to mentally, and physically, train new people to enter into the military. They knew that pacts would be made, there would be betrayal, and they would watch as people lost their humanity.
These people would then be sent out into the military, to fight the horrific monsters that laid beyond the city walls. They wouldn't have anything left of them to make them second guess dying for their country. They would fight as many monsters as they could, then they would die. They were the perfect mindless slaves that the government needed.

"Sing me a lullaby!" You giggled, looking at the boy in front of you. He had short green hair, and bright brown eyes. He gave you a bright smile, making you forget about the terrible world you lived in.
You had demanded to see your friend, Tadashi, to ease your nerves. Right now, you both were struggling to sleep. You looked into his eyes and watched, as they lit up in joy at the mere thought of being able to sing.
He always told you, that when you both got older he'd marry you and become a famous singer. It was something you both looked forward to, a happy future where you both could stay together forever.
His favorite thing in the world, was to sing you lullabies to help you sleep. Tadashi loved it, because he took pride in knowing that he was the only person that could make you happy. It made him feel like he could be somebody that you could rely on. He actually felt worthy of being your husband, when you both grew up.
The idea of him becoming your husband sent him into an overwhelming sense of joy. As he sung a lullaby he wrote, he watched as you started to close your eyes and rest your head on your pillow. He watched, as your breathing evened out and you fell into a look of utter peace.
After he was sure that you were asleep, he got out of the blanket fortress you both made, and walked over to his calendar. He marked out today as he let out a sigh. "We just have to make it three more years, and through the drawing." As he quietly whispered to himself, he let out a small smile. "We'll be alright Y/n."

You opened your eyes and yawned. You had to blink a few times, to regain your vision from the bright sunlight leaking in through your curtains. Propping yourself up on your elbows, you looked at the wall in front of you. Sitting in silence, you were worried for the year to come. Your were fifteen years old, and most of your friends would be put in the drawing for this years competitors.
You quietly ruffled your hair in distress. At least you'd have Tadashi, your one and only best friend. Just now remembering him, you leapt out of bed and hurried to find clothes. After you threw on a grey hoodie, and struggled to jump into some black ripped jeans, you rushed downstairs.
