You sat on the balcony feeling the autumn breeze brush through strands of your hair as you felt a slight chill run up your spine. You had sat there for quite a while waiting for sunset to fall so you could see Mai again.

You would spend most days pondering about her. As much as you had tried to distract yourself with the jewerly in your aunts shop and the bustling streets of the fire nation your mind always  skipped back to her.  You hadn't yet put a definition on your relationship, if you even had one that is, and it had been bugging you. Mai wasn't one for emotions and flattery, although she always had a certain glow about her when she was near you, you couldn't help but wonder what she really thought of you.

The two of you would spend most of your time together by trips to tea shops and playing dagger practice as Mai would complain about your lack of throwing ability. When you two were younger you were always trying to drag Mai from Azula and Ty lee so the two of you could pick flowers near your aunts jewerly shop, a activity the two of you did often. With Mai's fathers political career you two had to be wary of the activity's you two would participate in and in most times Mai was taken away to attend meetings with her father.

Your relationship had always been a strange one at that, mocking each other at sort but sharing intimate moments often. You remember the first time she kissed you as cold air fell onto your parched lips. Every time you too touched it was like static electricity that had exploded between the both of your body's, you always wondered if she felt it too. Her lips moved so delicately yet passionately against yours as she held your hand with a certain warm ness that made your stomach twist and turn.

As you remembered the first time she kissed you, you leant down to inspect a knife that had been thrown into your long skirt. You looked up expectantly to see a careless Mai walk her way to stand beside you.

"Im getting used to that now you know?" You spoke, remembrance of when she first started to scare you with her daggers as you pulled the dagger out of your skirt and handed it back to Mai.

"I know, but it doesn't become any less thrilling." You hear her say with a sarcastic undertone. But you weren't focused on what she was saying but on how she was looking. Her dark brown eyes seemed to shimmer as the sunset began to fade cascading a soft shadow to her lips, lips that you had grown to know so well but were still the biggest mystery to you. She stared out at the sunset in disgust as the breeze blew her hair away from her shoulders. She was the most absolute gorgeous thing you had ever seen. You stifled a laughter which had caught a Mai's attention.

"What so funny?" She said monotonely meeting your eyes.

"Nothing, i just forgot how much you hate the colour orange." I laughed looking down to the ground now leaning on the side of rail faced towards her.

"All colours are gross." She stated. That- that was little things like that, that would make you fall so deeply in love with her. You didn't know what it was but when she spoke like that it ignited something in you. Your beloved had been reborn, your elemental mate was restored, you were at ones peace with self and the world. She made you feel complete.

Mai made eye contact with you which felt like an eternity as she moved closer towards you.

Neither of you had spoken for a minute or two just standing under the deeply crimson sunset as you both tried to stare deeper into each others eyes. Before you could try look away however was when Mai slipped a piece of hair behind your ear.

Keeping that same monotone face you saw her eyes light up as her lips slightly curved as she inspected your face like she was admiring it. You body had become slightly stiffened but before you could react in anyway you felt the tenderest kiss to your temple.

You breathed in waiting for Mai to leave immediately but when you had opened your eyes she kept your face cupped in her hand as she gave you a slight smile.

"I missed you," she returned to monotone but kept the same look on her face.  I grabbed hold of her arm still on my cheek and formed her to hold my hand.

"I missed you too Mai." I smiled admiring the small moments she would let me into her heart. I love you with my whole heart, i thought but would never say aloud. Deep down i knew Mai felt the same way.

And with that a sweet kiss was planted on my lips as Mai held my hand as she walked me to her room to practice knife throwing.
