It was just after 4 am when an insistent tapping woke Austin up from his sleep. He froze in his bed, thinking it might be rain but the tapping continued, combined with the occasional thud.
"Kayla?" Austin whispered into the darkness of his cabin. "Will?" Kayla mumbled something and lifted up her head to glance at him
"What?" She asked, her voice croaky from sleep.

"There's something on the roof, " Austin replied, creeping down the ladder of his bunk bed to wake Will. Kayla opened her mouth to ask but shut it as she heard an extremely loud thud. Smoothing her unruly hair, Kayla climbed out of bed and darted over to her wardrobe. Whilst Kayla struggled to reach something in her wardrobe, Austin nudged and poked Will.
"Seriously, how do you guys get in so many messes?" Will groaned, rubbing his eyes.

Austin scowled defensively as he stood back up. "It wasn't us this time!"
"Yeah, there's someone on the roof, " Kayla informed Will, holding torches and a hammer. She handed out the torches before noticing Austin staring at her hammer.
"Don't worry, I didn't steal it, " Kayla huffed, annoyed at her brother's suspiciousness.
"I was actually going to ask why you have a hammer in the first place. Its not like you build anything, " Austin said, pulling on a hoodie.
"I use it to beat people up," Kayla said as if it were the most obvious thing.

"Come on, " Will urged them, his hand reaching out to the door. "But be quiet."
Kayla and Austin tiptoed after him as they snuck out to see what was thumping around on their roof. Kayla looked around, checking for any traps or lurking attackers when she bumped into Austin.
"What is it?" Kayla squinted in the direction Austin was looking, rubbing her forehead. Her eyes widened as she saw two figures trying to chisel off bits of their cabin's roof.

"Hey, get off our roof!" She yelled, charging towards them. The figures on the roof glanced at her and began chiselling again, this time a lot more urgently.
"I'm serious!" She repeated. "If I have to go up there, I will hit you with my hammer right in the kidney!" Kayla held up her hammer to prove her point. The two people seemed to get the message and hopped down from the roof. Along with bags full of broken off pieces of their roof. Kayla glanced around but couldn't see her brothers.

Switching off her torch, Kayla stalked along the side of the cabin and peeled around the edge. She wasn't surprised when she saw the two people tied up on the floor, a piece of string stretching behind their feet. And behind them, her brothers grinning at her.
"I bet its Hermes campers, " Austin said as Kayla shined a torch in their faces.
"Of course, " Will said as they saw who it was. "Cecil and Connor." Cecil and Connor didn't seem that guilty about what they had been caught doing.

"So, what were you doing on our roof?" Kayla asked, not so subtly swinging her hammer. Cecil gulped but Connor nudged him and grinned at her.
"We were collecting gold, " Connor explained. "Mortals go crazy for it! Travis once  managed to get a whole sackful of drachmas for some of this stuff." Kayla grumbled but stopped when she noticed Will shaking with laughter.
"What's so funny?" Cecil asked defensively. Will tried to suppress his laughter but took one glance at Cecil and Connor's confused faces and started laughing again.

After a few minutes of impatiently waiting for Will to stop laughing, the others finally got an answer.
"Apollo isn't stupid, " Will began as Connor scoffed and Kayla kicked him. "He knew that if he had his cabin made of solid gold, first off, the other gods would probably get jealous and second of all, that people like you would knock some off to sell." Connor and Cecil glanced uneasily at each other, not sure where this was going.

"Basically, that's just sandstone somehow made to look and feel like gold, " Will finished. Kayla and Austin caught each other's eye and began to laugh as Connor looked like he was about to have a tantrum.
"So it's like fool's gold, " Kayla said after she'd stopped laughing.
"Pretty much, " Will replied as he untied Connor and Cecil. The two Hermes campers handed them back the bags of 'gold' and turned to walk back to their cabin, looking embarrassed and annoyed.
"Fools, " Austin whispered after them, just loud enough for them to hear.
