hey loves! missed y'all last week.
quick recap: our babies finally went on their first date last chapter and we were served with all the feelz (hopefully) from how cute they totally were. Addy ended the night watching movies and stuffing her face with Christmas candy after Tamara covered for her with her mom.

I poked my head into my parents' bedroom, talking around the Twizzlers stick dangling off in the corner of my mouth. "Daddy, mind dropping me off at Ms. Jalloh's place on your way to work?"
His suited back facing me, he replied, "I thought Tamara was coming over to take you there."
"Can't; she has a Chem test to study for."
"Well, I have to leave soon because of my--"
"Interview," I finished for him, entering the room just as he spun around, arms wide, to showcase his suit. Seeing him decked out in his dark suit was foreign, so used to his customary orange vest, work pants and steel toe boots. I reached for his lucky gray tie--which was older than me and could technically count as his first child-- and centred it down his suit, flattening his collar before flashing a wide grin. "You look so good."
"Yeah?" He turned back to face the mirror. "Site manager type of good?"
I stuck my head around his body to take in his reflection. "I was thinking 90s movie star type of good. Well, Geroge Clooney--actually Morris Chestnut--no, wait, Denzel--"
Daddy looked down at me, the grin on his face matching mine. "Addy, you can ease back on your "hype man" duties. I was already gonna take you."
I straightened back up and gave a quick pat on his shoulder. "In that case, champ, look at your reflection a little longer, and I'll wait for you downstairs."
"When was the last time I did your braids for you?" Daddy asked once we settled into his truck and pulled out of the driveway we'd both cleared last night. It thankfully only snowed a little during the timespan of nighttime and the morning after. I stopped mid-scroll, taking my attention off the playlist Rome had sent me a couple nights ago.
I let out a short laugh. "Random...but maybe grade 6 for the school play...? Why?"
Daddy glanced over at me briefly, lifting his shoulder in a shrug. "No reason. Just remembered how it used to be our thing because your mama was so busy working and trying to get the diner up and running after Rene handed it off to her.
I brushed my shoulder with his. "Daddy, you're still my best hairstylist. 'Cause I swear, nobody does my two cornrows and knotless braids like you." I read the question in his eyes before nodding my head slowly and echoing his thoughts. "Not even Ms. Jalloh."
Daddy hummed his disbelief, and I held the seriousness on my face for half a second longer before cracking a smile.
"Okay, maybe that was a tiny lie. But at least we have basketball now as our thing. We just grew out of the hair thing when the styles I wanted started becoming a lil too complicated for you."
"I know we do. I'm just missing and reminiscing on our hair tutorials and ice cream days." Daddy sent me a rueful smile. "You mind connecting to the aux cord?"
