previously on in the unlikely event: addy helped tamara get her coats washed and clean just in time for tamara's homeless shelter volunteer and though she had no plans of staying, addy was roped into volunteering alongside tamara, where she saw her best friend be a mini mother teresa.

"Hey, what up?" I paused, already accustomed to the punchline. "Hello?"

That was new. "Tamara?"

"Sike! Not here right now. Do your thing at the beepity beep beep."

"This bitch," I muttered myself before bringing the phone back up to my ear. "Tamara, don't forget to study for your Bio exam and finish up your last dress for your design project. I'm heading out now, but I'll check in with you later. And since you're probably going to wake up with a nasty headache, remember, Advil is at the back of the bottom dresser drawer you never check." I pulled my reddish-brown coat out of my closet, grabbing my sneakers before sliding the door close. "Also, if anybody asks, I'm with you all day."

Ending the voicemail, I opened that door and almost walked right into Aunt Yvonne. I tucked my phone into the pocket of my slightly unreasonable ripped jeans. "Aunt Yvonne, everything alright?"

"Aren't you going out?"

"Yeah." I looked back into my room for some reason. I turned to Aunt Yvonne again. "Yeah, I'm still meeting up with Tammy; just running late."

"Shoot. I thought you'd already be out." She must have read the confusion on my face clear as day because she added, "My jeans don't fit anymore, my boobs are literally spilling out of all of my shirts, pregnancy leggings make me feel like...urgh! And I'm just so hungry all the time." She shouldered past me and collapsed, back first, on my bed. Instinctively, her hand reached up to her tummy, moving in soothing circles.

I leaned against my desk, dropping my sneakers to the floor before hanging my trench coat over my chair. I ran my hand through my faux locs. "What do you need?"

Her head perked up. "Your red, ruffled summer dress is pretty cute," she rushed, caught my raised eyebrow and dropped her head, flinging an arm over her face. "It's just so hard, trying to find an outfit to wear to my child and infant safety class with Jayson." She lowered her hand and glanced over at me. "And by child, I mean your niece."

I pushed off my desk, sliding my closet door open. I ran through my clothes, finding the dress at the back and pulling it off the metal rod. Going to her, I held it above her. "You coulda just asked me without the whole Viola Davis performance."

Standing up, she took it from me with a smile. "As if you woulda said yes. You hate when your Ma and I go shopping in your closet."

"Because y'all never ask until I come back home, missing three jackets and five shoes." Aunt Yvonne was already retreating out of my room. "It's honestly annoying!" I added just before the door closed.

Catching the time on my opened laptop, I groaned just as my phone vibrated. I pulled it out to see the text from Rome.
