Cars flashed by us on the highway. Damon had not spoken a word since we left school. I was growing antsy from the piercing silence in the car. Damon's ride was lavish. He owned a Porsche. Go figure.
I felt like one of the girls in that show 90210. Being whisked away into the unknown with a handsome stranger. I did not like the feeling of not knowing where we were headed. The exit to get to my house was a few miles back. I had no clue where we were going. He could take me to his dungeon, and I would never be seen again. I wonder if my family would mourn my absence. Probably not.
My hands were frozen in my lap. I was too scared to touch anything inside the car. My eyes went to the window. Dark clouds washed over the once blue skies. It was going to rain. I had the unusual ability to smell the rain before the downpour. It was too early in the day for the sky to be this dark. The perfect representation of my mood, dark and gloomy.
The sky opens and hail rattled onto the roof of the car. I took it upon myself to casually scan the interior for the first time. I needed something to distract me from peeking over at Damon. Nobody said it was a sin to look at candy.
My head snapped forward when he caught my eyes on him. The car slowed to a halt at a stoplight. Out the corner of my eye, I watched him lean forward to switch on the radio. A random rap song boomed into my ears. I winced from the sound. His fingers twisted the button to lower the volume. My body went stiff as a board from the closeness of his arm. He was a touch away ...
Damon slouched his body comfortably in the driver's seat. I cursed at myself when our eyes locked again. I opened my mouth to say something but the car behind us blared their horn. Snapping my mouth closed the words were lost on my tongue. The light turned green.
Damon impelled the vehicle down the street. I heard another car's horn tooting. To get comfortable I shifted my frame into the seat. Half of my body was facing the door. It looked like I was trying to jump out the car. The doors locked with a click sound. I slowly turned my head to Damon's pinning glare. I couldn't move a muscle. I was fucked.
"Don't even think about it." He was so calm as he spoke.
In his mind he was the ruler of this town. I haven't been here long enough to find out if that were true or not. His energy was magnetic. His words were haunting yet enticing. That was enough to make me want more. I figure only problems would come if I surrendered to my shadow. If he was acting this way while we weren't together, I could only imagine how he would be if we were. I had it set in my mind that Damon was interested in me. I was his toy. He just a had fucked up way of showing it. His intentions for pursuing me would reveal themselves. I was stuck on the now. I had enough problems in my life to be concerned about his feelings. This is the last place I should be.
He didn't miss anything. Nothing went past him without him knowing. It would be my downfall because no matter what I would always try to escape. I was not meant to be kept. Freedom was my birthright.
