THIRD PERSON POV

cody held his breath as he carried elle, holding her tight. he felt as if it wasn't even real. as if life wasn't actually happening, and that's why he didn't want to let go. he was scared that if he did, her and brie would somehow disappear and he'd be left alone.

as he re opened his eyes, he connected gazes with brie and could see the sorrow written on her face. he didn't know how to feel yet about their relationship but in that moment, it didn't really matter to him. he was more so focused on the way elle's tiny arms felt wrapped around his neck lovingly, that he didn't have a care in the world.

as he pulled away gently only so he could take another look at her, tears started to slowly come down again. she was so beautiful. a perfect mix of the two; reminding him of what once was a beautiful relationship. he couldn't imagine a more perfect little girl. the best part was that it was his little girl.

elle couldn't help but look up and take in his appearance as well. she was a very curious little toddler, and the fact that she almost sensed who cody was, didn't stop her from examining. after a couple seconds, she let out a giggle instantly putting a smile on cody's face. "you're very cheerful, huh little one?" he chuckled, wiping some of the tears with the back of his palm.

the small toddler only pretended to understand nodding her head, before looking behind cody. she laid her big brown eyes on the swings she had previously been on and pointed towards them. "sing!!!" she squealed, trying to yell swing. cody's eyebrows furrowed confused as he looked over his shoulder to where elle was pointing. he immediately let out a chuckle noticing what she meant and looking back at brie. "can i take her??" he hesitantly asked her as she still stood watching them.

his words broke her from her small trance and she had to take a couple seconds to collect what he meant. elle heard and turned to her mommy yelling "sing mamá, sing!!" even more cheerfully, as she pointed behind her. brie immediately let out a small laugh of adoration and nodded her head. "yeah of course, you can take her. she loves the swings." she clarified as cody softly smiled and turned around to begin to walk towards the playground.

brie put everything she had grabbed back down on the bench and slowly walked behind them. once cody placed elle on the swings, elle let out tiny squeals of joy. cody couldn't help but laugh at his little girl and began to push her softly. "mama! mama!" elle smiled big at brie who just watched with a big smile outstretched on her face too.

the sight of cody and elle smiling, laughing, bonding. it was a moment she never thought she'd see but truly always wanted. leaning against the slide in front of them, she let the soft breeze hit her in the face and zoned out just staring at them happily.

if only she could turn back time and undo everything. if only she would've thought everything out a little more. made the right decision, told cody since the beginning. maybe she wouldn't feel even more like shit with the fact that she basically robbed 2 years from them both. 2 years that cody could've spent involved in elle's life.

it's basically all shoulda, coulda, woulda's now. there wasn't much point in beating herself down over it but there was no way she would ever stop feeling tremendously guilty.

a little laugh cut her out of her train of thoughts, bringing her back as she realized it was elle's. none of her negative thoughts seemed to matter in those next few seconds, because after all; all that mattered was that elle and cody were now together.
