1.What is your book called?
My story is called "The Date".
2.What is your book about?
It's about a lonely kindergarten teacher named Elyse who on suggestion by her friend goes on a blind date. She later realizes that the man she's meeting is actually a superhero.
3.What genre is your book?
Superhero, romantic comedy.
4.Is your book a series?
No, it's one book.
5.Is your book complete?
Yes. Its about seven pages which in contrast to my other 21 chapter story is fairly light.
6.What gave you the idea for your book?
Firstly off the bat I should say that I love superheroes and read comics books all the time but the superhero stories I'm really drawn to are the ones that are less about the heroes and more about the everyday people that inhabit their world, stories like Astro-City or Watchmen. How normal civilians deal with living in such a dangerous yet fantastic world, those are the stories I love and I've wanted to write something like that for a while but could never find the right story worth telling. Then one day a friend of mine was showing me an internet video (i can't recall the actual name) where they were giving out fake advice on how to win over a girl's heart. One of the last ideas they talked about was showing up to your date fifteen minutes early and acting like you're a superhero. Not only did I think that was brilliant and someday wished to try it (but I can't cause women hate me) I also thought it would make a great short story. A woman on a blind date finding out that the man she's with is a superhero.
7.What do you do if you have writers block?
I wrote this fairly awhile back so I don't really remember if I had any major writers block. If I did, I probably did what I normally do and just stepped away for a while until inspiration hit me over the head.
8.Do you have any goals for your book?
To entertain. During the writing process the only real goal I had was to pay respect to this idea as it's probably going to be my best idea for quite awhile.
9.Do you have a favourite character? If so who and why?
Not a fan of picking favorites but between my leads I would say Elyse is my favorite. She was my first female main character since I usually stick to male leads but for this story I wanted to both experiment and push myself to do something different. I came up with a very cute, flawed, but still very believable and interesting female character that inspired me to have two females leads in the novel I'm writing now "Beast of Burden".
10.Are you happy with your book?
Very happy. I'm actually quite proud of how it turned out.
11.What has been the best compliment you have received about your book?
It's very creative and has a unique voice.
12.Why should people read your book?
It's really cute, sweet, and funny but still has enough in-jokes and winks for anyone who's interested in superheroes. Also it's more light and fluffy compared to my other book.
13.Any last words?
Nope, thanks again for interviewing me.
