Chapter 4
Rebecca arrived at the café at 4:02, he was already sitting at a table by the window. One odd thing is that he had two cups on the table, this made her wonder. She approached the table warily, took off her backpack from her shoulders, and hung it on the back of the neon green plastic chair.
“Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day?” he asked romantically,
“Don’t even start,” she protested,
“Do you need to renew your prescription of anti-bitch pills or what?” he asked jokingly
“Possibly,” she said reluctantly to his humor
“Anyways I got you a caramel macchiato,” he pushed the cup closer to her
“Did you poison it?” she asked, opening the cup and smelling the coffee that was still warm
“Possibly,” he said, taking a sip of his black coffee
“Why did you want me to even come here, I have science homework to do you know, plus academy applications are due next week,” she rambled on, all he could do was stare into her eyes and listen to how much she loved hearing her complain about school. He had never dated anyone who cared that much about their education. It was a while until he realized she had stopped talking and asked him a question about his now ex-girlfriend. He was brought back to reality.
“So?” she asked, she didn’t want to repeat the question,
“So what?” he was confused on the question,
“How does your girlfriend feel about this?” she asked impatiently
“What girlfriend?” he said with a sexy smirk on his face
“Oh you broke up with her? That’s adorable!” she said humorously, while she applauded slowly
“I thought about how she was just plastic Barbie and wasn’t going to deal with that anymore, I want someone real,” he said, sounding sincere
“Good goals,” she said, mixing her coffee with her finger
“So anyways I should ask you something,” he said, visibly nervous
“And what is that?” she wondered, now she began to test every possible situation of what could go wrong,
“Can you tutor me in Pre-Calc?” he asked, like it was some big embarrassment
“Um yeah sure, but when and where?” she pulled out a pad and paper
“Well, would you mind if we went to your house?” he asked, nervous for her answer
“Uhh, I guess, 354 River Road, at four o’clock tomorrow?” she slowly put her pad away
“Okay it’s a date- I mean- like not if you don’t want it to be a date, “ he stammered,
“No, I mean it’s alright if you want, I mean-I’d like that,” she smiled
“Yeah, okay, let’s do it.” He nodded, Rebecca pulled out her phone
“My mom is here, God I miss my car,” she complained
“What do you drive?” he asked, fishing his car keys
“A Ford Fiesta, black,” she said gathering her things
“Got it taken away?” he pulled on his backpack
“Yeah, for staying up too late reading Shakespeare,” she said, shying away from his stare
“Wow, there’s actually another person that reads Shakespeare by choice other than me, nice.” He smiled, and they strolled out of the coffee bean, with plans to see each other again.
