The books and papers I was holding threatened to slip out of my hands at any minute due to the fact that my hands were a river of their own. I held them closer to my chest, ignoring the loud thumping sound my heart was making and followed the gentlemen in front of me.
Saying I was nervous would be an understatement. I mean anyone who was me right now would be shaking in their boots. This was the opportunity of a lifetime and everything could change in a matter of seconds.
He stopped brusquely and I almost knocked into him as I was not paying attention. I caught myself before anything could happen though and looking up at him, wondering why we had stopped suddenly. He gave me a reassuring smile as if he understood how nervous I was. I returned the smile already knowing that we were standing in front of their door.
I took a deep breath, trying to calm down my nerves and the jitters that were traveling my stomach. I gave him a nod and he opened the door, revealing a small foyer. I stepped in after him and he closed the door, motioning for me to follow him down a hall.
I heard their voices before anything else and I was already bracing myself for anything. The only thing I was hoping was for it not to be awkward.
The man, which I then noticed was the manager, knocked on the wall beside him and got all the boys to turn their heads in our direction. I blushed and looked down, suddenly feeling the like I didn’t belong there.
“Guys this is…” His eyes bulged as he finally realized he hadn’t asked for my name. I giggled nervously and looked at the boys for the first time.
They were all seated, scattered around the room. Louis and Harry were on one couch, while Zayn was on the floor closer to the television and Liam and Niall were on another couch, a book in-between them.
“My name is Hayden. It’s a pleasure to meet you guys. I’m a fan of your music.” I babbled.
“She’ll be joining you guys on tours, rehearsals, interviews and pretty much everywhere One Direction goes. She’ll be your publicist, co-songwriter and assistant all wrapped up in one.” He explained a crooked smile on his face.
At this point, they all had smiles on their faces, some cheesing harder than others, but nevertheless they seemed to be handling the news quite well. I silently exhaled in relief and allowed the manager to take the books and papers out of my hands and sit them on a coffee table.
“Hey, Haydeeen!” Harry prolonged in his British accent, making everyone else laugh and get to their feet, pushing and shoving each other on the way as they came closer to greet me properly.
Even though I knew their names and they knew I knew their names, they still felt the need to introduce themselves in order.
“Hey, babe. I’m Liam.” He smiled and reached over to wrap me in a warm hug. I smiled and hugged him back, wondering if this was actually happening.
Was I really hugging a member of One Direction?
“Hi, Liam.”
Niall smiled and wrapped me in a quick hug. “I’m Niall.”
I went over to the next one but he wasn’t reaching over to give me a hug, matter of fact it looked like he was waiting for me to make the first move. He was giving me those big puppy eyes of his and that cute smile.
I giggled and wrapped my arms around his waist. “Hi, Harry.” He shook against me which let me know he was chuckling. I soon felt his arms wrap around my shoulder and a weight being settled on my head, letting me know he had his head on mine.
“Hayden, I don’t appreciate you being all over Harry like that.” I pulled away from Harry and glanced at Louis, the one that had made the comment and laughed with the rest of them.
“I apologize Louis, I will try to control myself next time.” I played along with him. He twisted his lips and studied me for a second as if he was thinking about forgiving me or not.
“Ah, come here. You know I can’t be mad at you.” He squealed and I laughed, stepping into his embrace.
It finally came to Zayn’s turn and I found myself anticipating the moment. I wasn’t going to lie, I’ve always had a tiny crush on him but I had never thought in a million years I would actually get to chance to meet him and the luck that had thrown itself my way was more than a blessing.
“Hey, sweetheart.” He mumbled, his voice resonating like music in my ears. I smiled and looked down shyly, not wanting him to see me blush but I felt strong arms pull me forwards and before I knew it, Zayn had me against his chest. I breathed in his scent and wrapped my arms around him, enjoying this moment as it would probably be my last.
I pulled away against my will and took a step backwards, admiring One Direction. This moment was surreal and I knew this was only the beginning of something bigger and better.
