Chapter 1 – They’re gone
My eyes were focused on the city in front of me, casted in the glow of the moon that shone bright in the sky. I followed a couple of ravens soaring though the sky and I watched people crowding the streets underneath me.
I leaned against the metal railing of my apartment back in London to support my weight and I slightly bended forward, as to get a better glimpse of the live that happened underneath me.
My ocean blue eyes watched a small girl push her way through the crowd in a hurry. Her white dress whirled around her body like the wings of a bird and I couldn’t help but wonder what she was doing there in the crowd of much larger people, especially at this time. The weird thing was that the others didn’t even saw her.
She looked like a fallen angel. Confused and lost in the world of the humans, wondering what she was doing there and what her purpose was.
As if she could feel my eyes on her she turned around and looked up, looking me straight in the eyes. I was surprised to say that her eyes had a bright yellow colour, they seemed to have something of a cat’s eye. Fierce, curious and they seemed to glow. This was ridiculous, of course. Probably she just wore contacts and the streetlights illuminated her eyes in a glow.
Then she just disappeared.
I blinked in surprise and slowly shook my head, rubbing my temple with my thumbs. It’s late, I probably just need some sleep.
I opened the balcony door and stepped inside the warmth of my apartment. I sighed in content and rolled my shoulders.
We just got Christmas break and I plan to spend it with my family. But Christmas – and my birthday – wasn’t in a few more days , so I had some time for myself.
I yawned and lazily tugged the winter coat off my body, throwing it somewhere on the floor. When I lived together with Harry, he always tried to move my stuff around, trying to clean the place. I never liked the idea of people moving or touching my stuff and Harry slowly turned me crazy so I moved out of my own. It’s the best this way.
My hoodie, shirt and pants were quick to join the coat on the floor. I pulled some grey pyjama pants over my hips and I crawled into my soft and comfortable bed, wrapping the blankets over my body to keep me warm. I listened to the howling wind outside and let it soothe me into a deep dreamless slumber.
I closed my eyes and let sleep take over.

I was probably asleep for a few hours, when I woke up it was at least still dark outside. The moon was high in the sky and the stars sparkled like thousands of diamonds.
My alarm clock said it was almost four in the morning and I groaned in irritation. I have slept for five hours. This has happened more often to me. I wake up in the middle of the night and I can’t fall asleep again, no matter what I try. I tried to drink warm milk, even sleeping pills, but nothing seemed to help. It was, as if, there was some natural alarm clock inside my head that woke me up at this crazy hour. Preventing me to sleep.
My right shoulder started to itch and I scratched it in irritation. Also, a few minutes after I woke up in the night my shoulder started to itch, the weird part is that’s it always the same spot. Always my right shoulder, and on the exact same place.
Soon the weird feeling was gone and I glared at my shoulder in irritation. The skin there was red from what my nails had caused, but it didn’t hurt. I went to the doctor with it, but they didn’t knew what to do. The sin wasn’t irritated and I didn’t had an allergic reaction to something. They told me to wait it out.
I sighed and jumped out of bed, I’m not getting any sleep anyway, so I just get out of bed. I have nothing better to do anyway.
I walked into the small kitchen and I opened the fridge, looking for something edible. I took a few slices of cheese pizza out of the fridge – leftover from yesterday – and I put it on a plate and I took a few gulps out of the milk carton. My mother would have killed me if she saw me drink out of the carton, but it’s my house, so it are my rules.
I put the milk back in the fridge and I took the plate with me to the couch. Turning the television on to a football match and I ate my pizza, my eyes focused on the screen, absorbed into the game.
And then the door of my apartment slammed open. I looked up in shock and saw a tall figure stumble into my hallway. Green eyes met my own and an eighteen-year-old guy ran towards me with a panicked expression on his pale face. His eyes were wide and his lips were slightly parted, gasps escaping his mouth. His dark brown curly hair was like the manes of a lion. Wild and fierce.
“Harry,” I asked the younger lad in surprise, “what are you doing here at this hour?”
“It are Liam and Niall,” he told me between breaths.
I raised one of my eyebrows in a questioning way, “they are gone.” He added.
My eyes widened, “Gone? What do you mean they’re gone?” I asked in disbelief.
“I don’t know! They were just gone! I went to Niall’s place to get some food – my fridge is empty – and he wasn’t at home, and neither was Liam!” He panicked and his bottom lip started to tremble, signalling he could bust out crying any minute now.
“They might be out for a walk?” I offered with a sheepish grin.
Harry glared at me, his green eyes burning. “They are gone!” The boy shrieked again.
I stood up from the couch I was seated and I placed the pizza on the small table to walk towards him. “I’m sure they are fine, they are big guys, they can look after themselves. Plus, Liam and Niall disappear more often those days, it’s nothing new.” I attempted to soothe him, wrapping him up in a hug, holding him firmly yet gentle against me. I could feel him shake in my arms in fear.
“But what if something really happened to them? I’m just worried about them,” he mumbled.
“I know.” I just said.
Lately Niall and Liam have been acting… weird. It all started when Niall got that weird star tattoo, he looked different since then and he started to act more differently that his usual self. He’s more secretive and he mostly only hangs out with Liam. They also just disappear at the end of an interview and we only see them back after many hours.
Something is differently going on with them. It must be huge if they decided to keep it a secret from us. Us as in me and Harry and Zayn. Before Niall got his tattoo we were extremely close, the five of us. We shared everything and we knew we could trust each other, no matter what. We had each other’s backs and we helped each other, no matter what. We promised.
Now, I’m not so sure about that anymore.
But whatever it is they are hiding, I’m determined to find out what it is. The thing that is apparently too important to share with the rest of us.
I will find out.
Even if it’s the last thing I do.
The first official chapter of 'Radioactive Water', the second book in the Superhero Series. For those who haven't noticed it yet, this books starts where the first book ended (with Liam and Niall in the airplane) but obliviously, this book is in Louis' pov, not Niall's.
Soon Liam and Niall will return, don't worry about that and it also won't be long until Louis' powers get unsealed. I think you already figured out that Louis would be the next one.
Guesses what Louis' powers will be? The girl with the white dress? Louis' 'natural alarm clock' and the itching on his shoulder, does it mean anything? His promise at the end? Predictions? Let me know what you think! :D
Don't forget to vote and comment! I love to hear from you guys!
