Chapter 4 – Weird things are happening
If was a few days after my birthday and Christmas and I felt… weird to say the last. My right shoulder started itching on the most random moments. Sometimes I even could say the vague shape of a star appears, but it was gone in a blink of an eye.
I also suddenly have the constant push to go outside town. I have no idea why and I have no idea what I’m supposed to do there. I just know I have to.
That is what I’m doing at the moment. Even if it was midnight.
I let my feet carry me to wherever they wanted to bring me and I simply whistled along, walking though the familiar streets I have spent nearly my whole childhood.
After letting my mind wander for a while, I suddenly found myself staying close to a lake. I remembered the lake from a few earlier memories. I have spent most of my summers here with my friends, hanging around and swimming in the cool water.
The lake looked exactly the same as the last time I have been here. But the feeling was different and even unnatural.
I narrowed my eyes and sceptically took a step closer; glancing down at the shimmering water below my feet. My own reflection appeared and I looked at myself. When I locked eyes with myself, a burning pain appeared on my shoulder. It was like someone ejected fire in my veins and I could feel it pulsing though my body in a blinding speed. Tears brimmed behind my vision and I bit my lip to prevent from screaming out.
My shoulder lit up like a thousand torches and I pulled my hoodie off, ignoring the harsh cold nibbling on my bare skin. I looked at my shoulder, my breath hitched in my throat in complete disbelief.
There, on my shoulder, was a star tattoo.
The exact same one Niall had on his left wrist. And now it was on my right shoulder. For a while, I looked at the tattoo in complete bewilderment, but my attention was bought back to the lake.
The surface had started to bubble, as if the whole lake transformed into one gigantic bubble bath.
As if in trance; I took a step forward, closed my eyes and fell face down in the lake. The surprisingly warm water engulfed my body, wrapping around me like a welcoming and comfortable blanket. I opened my greenish blue eyes and looked around at the ‘underwater world’ watching a few fishes swim past.
Something shimmered at the bottom of the lake, catching my attention. There, lying on the bottom was what from the distance seemed to be a shining stone.
Curiously, I swam towards it, peddling my feet in the water and I stretched my hand out to grasp it. My hand was met with the cool and smooth surface of the stone and the moment my hand met it, the whole lake illuminated in a greenish-yellow glow. My whole body froze and I paralyzed from head to toe.
Oh shit.
The star tattoo started to shine and burn on my shoulder and something snapped inside of me.
I opened my mouth in a silent scream and my eyes widened; water entering my mouth and lungs, making me gasp for breath. I couldn’t swim back to the surface to catch my breath, it was as if something held me down, preventing me from escaping.
My whole body burned up and I got an aching headache, as if a star exploded in my head or something like that. I wanted to scream out, but I only chocked on water. Everything became too much for me to bear so I blacked out, underwater.
The last thing I remembered is someone else jumping in the water and a pair of arms hauling me to the surface.

My eyes opened and I gasped for breath. I rolled to my side and choked some more water out of my lungs. I sat there like that for a while; choking, gasping and shivering.
I looked down at my chest and much to my surprise I saw I was suddenly wearing a necklace with a stone attached to it. The stone was in different shades of blue with swirls of green and it hung on my neck with a golden chain. It felt surprisingly warm against my body and it pulsed lightly, like a beating heart.
That was when I noticed I wasn’t alone.
My body froze and my shoulders tensed. Slowly I looked up and my eyes widened in surprise and a bit of disbelief when I locked eyes with the person seated on a low rock in front of me. Crystal blue eyes looked back at me and the moonlight shone on pale-blond hair that was pushed up in a quiff. He wore a simple baby blue button-up shirt with the sleeves rolled up and black pants. The unnatural blue eyes went to my shoulder and they widened when he saw the star tattoo.
