"Zane we are literally on top of a building downtown so you can watch this guy through his apartment windows."

"I am failing to see your point angel." He smirked and looked through the binoculars again.

"What's your favorite color?" I ask while sitting myself in a cross-cross style. "Let me guess. Black."

"Purple." He responded not moving his binoculars. "Why do you ask?"

"I just...I don't know. I know nothing about you."

"Well then ask me something else." He pressed his lips together, Giving me a second to think.

"If you got takeout-Mexican or Chinese?"

"Chinese."

"When's your birthday?"

"July 4th."

"Born on the Fourth of July? That's interesting." I smile

"Mhm" He says still looking off in the distance.

Let's really get his attention.

"How many girls have you dated?" I grinned. He cleared his throat...twice.

"I. I don't know."

"Okay next question." I laugh awkwardly. "You ask me some maybe?"

"Ooooooooh." He shoved his hands in his pockets giving up all hope of avoiding me. "What's-" the phone ringing stopped his question.

"Joab it's almost 3 in the morning what could you possible want- they did what? Where? How many? When?"

Zane hung up and grabbed my hand dragging me down the emergency exits and to the car hidden down below.

He frantically pushed the keys in the ignition before reving the engine and taking off.

I clutched into my seat as I braced myself from Zane's crazy driving.

"What's going on?" I pant.

"We've got a problem." He shifted gears making the car speed up.

"And?"

"There's been a shooting. One of the men in my top unit was attacked in his home. I need to make sure he's still alive."

"Can I help?" I brace myself when Zane takes a sharp curve into a dark street.

The car comes to a halt at a apartment complex.

"I'm coming." I state opening my door.

"No way. It's dangerous. There could be people still up in there. And backup is 20 minutes out." He say from across the car hood.

"There could be people hurt!" I tie my hair in a ponytail as I trot around him and head toward the building.

"Moriah no. I don't have time for this."

"Then don't argue. Lead the way." I say but was already way out in front of him. His footsteps jogged up to me right as a cold object touched my skin.

"Here take this. You do know how to shoot a gun right?" He asked as I grip the handle. I gave him a nod and that was all he needed. We darted in the building and up several flights of stairs. Zane searched the hallway with me close on his heels before stopping at a door.

The door of the apartment was open. The door and the lock had been shot leaving several holes in the old wood. He tapped the door with his boot and the door creaked open.
