"Thank you for not killing my mate the day after she got here." Lucas jokes with Ian as we begin to walk back into the gym.

"I kill her? I didn't even get a single hit on her! She's crazy!" Ian laughs as he points to me, making the group of us laugh.

"That good huh?" Lucas smirks as he looks at me, I return with a smile.

"For a beta, you're pretty strong. Of course, you'll never be better than me, but that's beside the point." I lightly jab at Ian's shoulder in a joking manner.

"Oh is that so?" In return with a grin. "Where'd you learn to fight like that anyway?" He raises an eyebrow.

"I've been training for a long time, let's just say I've never had anything handed to me." I try to brush over any details. Thankfully, Ian accepts the answer and moves on.

The four of us make our way back to the house after a few hellos from passing pack members, Lucas and I part ways from Ian and Darian once we get inside. He guides me upstairs to a room with a large wooden door, right in front of the steps. He opens the door to reveal a spacious office. Complete with a large meeting table and a few seats around it, shelves lining each wall decorated with books and the occasional picture.

Past the table sat a sleek metal desk with a computer and several files full of paperwork sitting on top. Tucked in the corner of the room is a small couch and a few magazines sitting on a side table. Lucas gestures for me to take a seat on the couch as he pulls a spare chair away from the table to face me.

"How long were you standing there before I shifted?" I asked him.

"Long enough to see you kick my Beta's ass." He laughed "Long enough to see your beautiful wolf." He adds, making eye contact with me.

I feel my cheeks heat up, not only because of his proximity to me or the direct eye contact but because I know he's going to have questions. I've been dreading this moment from the second I woke up this morning.

"I've never seen a wolf like yours before, and I couldn't help but notice how strong your wolf is. You radiate more power than any other alpha I've encountered before." He looks at me with a smile on his face. "It's amazing how you fought too, I was stunned by your presence when you were sparring with Ian. Even more so when you shifted." He paused, but I could tell that he wanted to ask about it. About why I'm so powerful, why he's never seen a wolf like mine before.

I look down to the ground, hiding my face with the strands of hair that had fallen out of my bun. He stands up and moves the chair away, then crouches down in front of me. Taking my shaking hands in his, I look up to meet his soft eyes.

"I know your special Kaila, your different. I could tell that the second I put eyes on you last night. How special, I can't say, but you're powerful and strong. Just your presence is dominating, even to me as an alpha." He takes a short breath in as I hold mine and prepare for what questions he's going to ask next. "You're my mate, and I know we just met but I'm already in love. I don't care what you are, I just want to know. Your different than any other wolf I've seen, and it's amazing." He pulls my hands to his lips and places a soft kiss on one.

I can feel his emotion through his grasp, even more so through the pack bond—pride, joy, curiosity, love. I've been alive for hundreds of years and no one has ever made me feel like Lucas has in the past 12 hours. I think I'm still in shock that he's already said He loves me, and now I also have to figure out a way to explain what I am to him. I feel the anxiety in the pit of my stomach, I want to tell him,  I don't want to lie. I feel like I can trust him. Like I should trust him. But I've felt that way before, and it never ends well.

"He's your mate, you were meant to be with him, the moon goddess blessed you with a twin flame." My wolf tries to calm my nerves. "You can trust him, he's not like anyone else. He lives for you, just as you do him. For once, I feel safe around people, in this pack, I finally feel like I belong." She assures me with words I never thought I'd hear from her.
