Ever heard the saying 'life's a bitch'?
Well you would be too if you were her. Why? You mean why is she, excuse me he, so mean? Well let me tell you.
Lyle, as s-pardon me he- prefers, was and is and likely always will be in love with death.
Dallen, as death prefers, doesn't return Lyle's feelings.
But you see to understand and sympathize you need the details.
Before death, and even before time, there was life. She gave others the power to create life as well, and others took it without asking or even crediting her. She was forgiving though, and didn't really mind as long as it was all returned, which it was.
But then time appeared and with him, death. Death originally was an angel, sent to collect the souls that belonged to another god, your god perhaps. But death was sent to work for time. He collected all souls then, not just those belonging to the one god.
Eventually the afterlife system changed and the gods sorted things out and actually got their shit together, so every soul eventually ended back in life's hands. Death by then had become Dallen, the fallen who didn't fall but willingly threw himself. For him one thing lead to another and he met Life.
She was beautiful. Truly. With her lively eyes and smile, colored clothes and unending kindness. She made it seem as if the open meadows around her home sang if only just for her...
And death fell in love......or so we thought.
Dallen would visit often, in life's eyes at least as she had no perception of time. They'd share tea and have a long and meaningful conversation. They connected. Life was even happier, if that was possible, now that death was her friend.
One day death showed her love. A kind of love that was meant to express real love physically.
Life understood that but didn't really understand love. She never knew she gave it to everyone. Death explained and taught her. She realized she felt more than one kind of love, as there are many, and she realized she loved death.
And death said he loved her.
She was so happy. But unfortunately, she gained a perception of passing time..
Deaths visits weren't as often as she'd thought. She sent him gifts to remind him she loved him while they were apart.
Little lives directly from her, no processing, and original. Death when asked about them smiled and said he'd kept them.
Little turtles and cats. Small birds and mice. He'd kept them, forever he'd said.
Life naturally liked this and sent more. And when death would come to visit she'd always be happy to make him tea and sit beside him.
Death would write her songs, or poems. Once he wrote her a story even. He was oddly poetic and life loved it.
She missed him while he was gone but he was always worth the wait.
That is, until she heard from another why he really took so long.
Once his work was nonstop but he had helpers now. Reapers working for him. Death had plenty of free time but only visited life once in awhile.
She heard from another that he was seeing time. He loved time.
Life asked him.
"Oh? No no. I help time, he's so busy he's asked me to help in his house. It's part of my job." He said.
Life believed him. He loved her after all.
Ht she heard from another, he saw more than time. All of which were male too. He never saw women.
Life asked him. Death rolled his eyes and sighed.
"Look lie, I tried being nice. You're too clingy and whiny and possessive. But your body's nice. So when I find myself preferring a woman I come here." He said.
She was heart broken. She asked if she were less possessive and more like a man if he would actually love her then. If she wasn't as clingy or whiny and we're male. He said sure.
Sure. So life tried.
Lyle, was his name. He flirted with whomever he met, wouldn't complain and just always had tea ready. He would finish his gardening first before giving Dallen his undivided attention and he certainly didn't whine, or care that Dallen still saw others.
But Dallen still only loved her body. But Lyle still loved him.
Dallens heart only truly belonged to time though.
Time had started as a hellbeast. He became a demon then an immortal. Eventually he became what he is today, a doll god.
But point is Dallen loved time and not life.
Life tried. She became Lyle, the 'boy' that wasn't clingy, or whiny or anything like that. But Dallen still didn't love her. So Lyle gets a bit bitchy to say the least because despite his best efforts Dallen didn't love him.
So forgive life, for we are here only because of him and even life has a bad time at times.
