"Why didn't you tell me before?"
"Because, I was scared." Katie speaks shyly.
"Katie, don't ever hide things from me like this. You know I'm there for you when you feel this way, right?" her father said, holding her hand and giving her a little smile.
"But, I never knew this nightmare thing would go this far. So I thought that it was just a little bad dream, so it will stop in after a few days." Katie looks at her father in stress.
"I honestly thought about telling this to you. I swear"
"Really? When were you planning to tell me? Hmm?" Her father starts staring at her, folding his arms, still wearing his suit from work.
"Oh, tomorrow morning, at breakfast" Katie says looking at her watch, trying not to make eye-contact with her dad.
"You didn't plan on telling this to me at all, weren't you?" Katie's father starts talking to her in an angry tone.
"No, Dad I-"
"You know, I thought you trusted me, and told me everything!" Katie's dad started started yelling at her.
" Look, Even though you miss your mom and you rely on her coming back to you, and I know how you feel about her, because you need her more than me sometimes. And even if you love her more than me, and I'm fine with that. But, if you don't love me, the only thing I need is your trust." He said, in a calm tone.
"And I need your trust. For all these years, I always asked you about mom, and you never spoke a word about her. And you expect me to trust you. All I ever wanted was the answer. Did mom leave because of me, or because of YOU!" Katie bursts into tears.
"Katie, sweetie, I-" "I don't need your stupid explanation, Dad. I really don't need it-"
"Your mom left because of you!" Her Father said it out loud and clear.
Katie gasps and turns back to him. She walks slowly and stares at her father with her eyes full of tears.
"I guess now I know why you never told me this, you just didn't wanna see me crying" Katie sniffles.
"Of course, I didn't want to see you like that, but I guess she will be back soon" says Katie's father.
"What makes you think that?" Katie says wiping her tears.
"I don't know, but trust me when I say this to you. Your Mom never told me why she left" her father starts speaking.
"Believe me I asked her and she left without a word" for once, Katie knew her father was telling the truth this time.
Her father gave her a warm hug, "I'm really sorry, sweetie"
"I know, and I'm sorry too, for yelling at you like that" Katie's could hear her mumbling.
"Eh, It's okay, now." Katie's dad smiles
"Oh, come on, stop crying now, your eyes are red." Katie's dad snapped.
"Yeah, I better get ready for school, now" Katie heads towards the bathroom.
"Hey, Katie" she hears her dad.
"Yeah?" Katie turns around.
"Well, do you wanna stay home and maybe have fun? I mean I took a day off."
"Sure, I can't remember the last time we even spent a whole day together"
"AWESOME! We can watch a very inspiring documentary"
"Dad" Katie starts whining.
"Just messing with you" He laughs
