Just two days later and today's the day the team had officially dubbed: 'D-Day' A day that would hopefully end in relief not only for Hongjoong but for the rest of the team as well, they've all grown tired of chasing the same person for four years straight.
Hongjoong, Wooyoung and Jongho were in a black suv and Yunho, Mingi, Yeosang and San had piled into a black van, following the others. But they weren't the only ones heading to Seonghwa's estate, SWAT vehicles followed along with two helicopters that tailed behind, keeping a far distance to not lose the element of surprise.
Car rides like this were always tense and quiet. No one spoke a word, they only listened to the radio checking in on every street they turned onto. Until finally, the thin road to Seonghwa's home appeared.
"This is the road." Hongjoong spoke into the radio letting the others know. "You guys head down. There could be surveillance, we're gonna wait out here." Yunho's voice came through the radio and the trio in the car nodded to eachother. "We're heading in." Wooyoung and Jongho ducked into backseats of the car, hoping that the tinted windows would conceal them enough.
Hongjoong called Seonghwa in advance, telling him that be would be on his way. Seonghwa mentioned a dinner he had planned for them at his home and had simply stated, "Follow the roses."
When Hongjoong pulled into the driveway he looked to his friends that were hiding. Wooyoung extended an arm and adjusted Hongjoong's blue hair so it would cover the earpiece snuggled into his ear, "Stay safe." Hongjoong nodded and opened the suv's door, stepping out and locking the vehicle.
He walked up the now familiar steps and was surprised to see that the door was unlocked, no maids, no security, interesting.. He tapped his earpiece and whispered to it, "No one in sight, approach with caution."
Upon entering the home was dark, pitch black almost. All curtains drawn, windows closed, no light. Except for a single candle flickering on a small table. Hongjoong approached the table, wary of his surroundings. But there was nothing else there, only the small candle atop the small table. He looked around to finally see what he assumed he was meant to. A path of roses, deep red roses that formed a path, illuminated by more small candles that casted a yellow glow on the flowers. "Follow the roses."
And that's what he did.
Hongjoong followed the roses, winding down halls that seemed to go on forever. Then the roses stopped in front of a door, "Seonghwa..?" He called into the darkness as he turned the doorknob. No answer. Hongjoong bit his lip and walked into the room, engulfed in darkness. He walked further into the room and heard the door close behind him softly.
"Who's there?" He called into the darkness, scanning every inch around him. "I know who I am, but who are you?" Hongjoong composed himself and became calmer at the voice that he recognized, Seonghwa's voice.
"And who do you think I am?" The soft tapping of shoes echoed in the room as Seonghwa came closer. "Seems to me you're lost. Need help finding
your way, baby boy." A small smirk appeared on the edge of Hongjoong's lips, he knew what he would do. "Maybe I am.." The taller man approached him, hooking a finger under his chin. His eyes trained on Hongjoong's. "Why don't you let me help you then." Hongjoong sneaked his hand behind his waist, carefully pulling the handgun from his waistband. "I'd be delighted."Seonghwa was entirely oblivious to Hongjoong's intentions, he was blinded by the desire burning inside of him. As he moved his hand to unbutton Hongjoong's shirt a loud bang rang through the air. Hongjoong stepped back from him, watching Seonghwa fall onto the floor in pain. He was clenching his now shot knee.
"Park Seonghwa you are under arrest. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law. You have the right to an attorney. If you cannot afford an attorney, one will be provided for you. Do you understand the rights I have just read to you? With these rights in mind, do you wish to speak to me?"
Seonghwa was in pain, not only physical but emotional. He was distraught and confused, "H-Hongjoong.." His voice was strained, he held tightly onto his wound trying to stop the blood dripping. He looked up with teary eyes to the man who was now speaking to his earpiece. "H-help.. me.."
Hongjoong knelt beside him, "I had to, I really had to." He pressed his hands over Seonghwa's, looking into his eyes. "I- I.. trusted y-you." Seonghwa shut his eyes tightly, gritting his teeth in pain. What was this feeling? Agony, anger? No. Just pain, pure pain. Pain from the very man he loved.
Everything happened so quickly that Hongjoong couldn't even apologize. It seemed within seconds people were barging through the door, dragging Seonghwa away from Hongjoong's grasp. "Wait!" Hongjoong pathetically called to the men. But he was too late, Seonghwa had already been cuffed and loaded into an ambulance.
His friends appeared by his side, "Hongjoong! Are you okay?" "We did it!" "Great job Kim!" Their voices sounded muffled and distant. His eyes followed the ambulance till he could no longer see it.
"Hongjoong!" He came back to reality after feeling his body being shaken. "Hongjoong! You still in there?" He heard Mingi's voice and looked up to see his tall friend shaking him. He couldn't find any words to say and only hugged his friend, tears threatening to spill from his eyes.
"Hey.. what's wrong? You did it man. No casualties, no bumps, you did it." Mingi rubbed his back trying to console the shorter man. Hongjoong looked up to his friend and exhaling deeply, "Your right. I did it."
He forced a smile that soon turned into a genuine one and was engulfed by a group hug. The group reliquished the moment, before it could all turn to chaos again.
On Seonghwa's end he only saw chaos, he saw his mistake and complete failure before his eyes as he stared at the ambulance ceiling, tears streaming down his eyes. 'What did I do wrong?' He could only blame himself, for allowing himself to believe that he could really trust anyone else.
Beside him EMTs were rushing to stop the bleeding in his leg, which they quickly managed to get under control. "We can't just do that for no reason though!" He heard a female voice arguing with a male one, "He's a criminal! Besides, we already got his bleeding under control so help me sedate him."
The two voices argued back and forth until the male had enough, "Then move, I'll do it myself. I'm not getting fired because of you." An IV was injected into Seonghwa's veins and a liquid starting rushing through. The woman came into Seonghwa's view,
cleaning up his wound she made brief eye-contact and mouthed, "Sorry."Seonghwa's eyes grew tired, and the next thing he saw.. darkness.
