Louis wasn't looking forward to the next few days. Only a few hours after his conversation with Chloe, Scrooge barged into his room and declared the family was going on an adventure in Cabo. He thought about protesting, but knew it would be pointless. He was also a little worried Sam and Jason would get to the manor before he returned, but all he could really do was sit back and go along for the ride.
Della was flying, much to his delight. He enjoyed Launchpad's good hearted nature, but his flying skills were just as good as Fred Durst's vocals. Della, on the other hand, seemed to take a bit more care with flying and was a lot more aware of just how severe too many crashes would be for the Cloudslayer.
Regardless, everything Louis remembered and didn't like about adventuring was all coming back to him: Scrooge babbling about some priceless treasure or artifact or curse, Dewey and Webby both getting in over their heads, and Huey stating as many pointless facts about the location. At least before, Louis had Chloe to talk to or, at the absolute least, be silent with, but she wasn't here now. To make matters worse, Stiles had replaced his phone with a minimum use phone, so he couldn't even listen to music.
Eventually, after several lectures about this being Louis's 'first journey back' and 'big chance at redemption' from Scrooge, they arrived in Cabo. The scenery was admittedly nice, and the air felt clean. It wasn't too loud, and there was a perfect balance of man made structures and nature. All in all, there were way worse places Louis could've been.
"Alright," Scrooge declared as everyone got off the Cloudslayer. "This is as close to the temple we could land. There's a caravan we can take, but it's in use at the moment. That being said, we have about two to three hours before we can get to the temple. So for now, go ahead and soak in the local culture. Just stay within the town limits and don't piss off the locals."
Louis took the opportunity to try to slip away. However, he only got a few feet away from everyone else before he heard someone yelling at him.
"Nice try, lad, but you're not going anywhere alone until you've earned everyone's trust back," Scrooge told him.
"He can go with us," Della offered, trying to ease the oncoming tension.
Scrooge mumbled something under his breath, but relented.
"We were gonna check out a gift shop, come on!" Webby excitedly said, running off with Dewey toward a nearby store.
"Let's go, Lou. You never know, you may find something you like," Della said with a smile.
Louis rolled his eyes and didn't reply, simply followed Dewey and Webby toward the store. Della sighed and followed him.
She knew it was only a matter of time before he left again. He may not have kept the name, but he was a McDuck at heart. Agent Stiles may have said that the ankle monitor Louie was wearing was unpickable, but if there were anyone who could do it, Della knew it was Louie Duck. That being said, she wanted to get to know him, or at least make peace with him, before that happened. Even if he didn't believe her, she just needed him to know that he was always loved, and that there would always be a place for him in the family, even if he didn't want it.
Louis steered clear of Dewey and Webby, who were rushing through store after store. If he didn't know any better, he'd guess the two were a couple now. So one thing changed, and even then, it wasn't that big a change.
"Looking for anything in particular?" asked an elderly store vendor, drawing Louis out of his thoughts.
He looked around a bit more, not really finding anything that stood out to him. "Not really? Anything you could recommend?" He may not have been in a good mood, but that didn't mean he should be impolite.
