Miles' laughter reverberated inside his room. His eyes watered from our tickle fight. However, I stopped frozen when we hear a knock on his door. We exchanged looks and shrugged.

"Come in."

Christian Parkinson stepped inside. "Hi, Miles. Your favorite Uncle came by to visit."

I snorted. "We both know that's not the only reason you're here."

He gives me an innocent look.

"Don't even, Christian. I can see right through you. It's Miles' bedtime already. Too late for a visit, huh?" I narrowed my eyes on him.

He held up his hand. "Okay."

Miles laughs. "He's here because Aunt Kylie's here."

"See? You're not fooling anyone."

Christian chuckled and walked toward the bed. He lowers himself next to me, ushering Miles to his arms. "I came here for you. Don't listen to your godmother."

I rolled my eyes and give him the finger behind Miles' head.

"Your Uncle Matthew's here too and wanted to say good night. He just got held up by your Aunties. You know how all girls like him so much."

Miles moved back from the hug and beamed. "He's going to hang out with me this weekend?"

"Yeah. Your grandma's trying to make your godfather stay home as much as possible."

Dread knotted my guts. "What do you mean?"

Christian grinned his amusement. "I didn't know this will spark interest from you but, okay, Matty's skipping medical conferences for now."

Well, kill me.

I gulped. "He's going to be at the triplets' birthday party?"

"Of course. He's their godfather too. Cade will not be pleased if he won't be there." He picks up Miles' bedtime story and volunteered to read it to him while mortification washes over me.

I kissed my godson goodnight and headed back to the girls. Matthew was not in sight.

Thank God.

They were already in the porch getting swept off their feet by their beloved princes. Chassie and Nathan were the first ones to leave. The latter probably couldn't wait to have his wife alone to himself.

Kathie and Cade went second, Kathie blowing me a kiss from the passenger side. I waved aggressively and blow kisses back.

"We can give you a ride," Kylie offered.

"Nah. I'm taking the miserable single's train back home with Rach." I threw a thumb over my shoulder where Rachel and Audrey are sitting on the swinging bench of the porch.

"Come on. It'd be a fun car ride with the four of us," she says, hand going behind her head to absently trace her hair bow.

I shake my head. "We came in Rach's car. Besides, I think your boyfriend will like it better if there's just the two of you." I wiggled my brows at her.

She blushed.

As if my thoughts conjured said boyfriend, Christian came out the door and spotted his blushing girlfriend immediately. He grinned, blue eyes tender as he pulls her to his chest. "We ready to go, Buttercup?" He murmurs, pressing a soft kiss on the side of her head.

Ah, to love and be loved.

Kylie nods, gazing up to her boyfriend. She looks so small in his arms, but Kylie who stands heart-level even in her skyscraper heels next to Christian completely owns the man.

Lost in thought, I hadn't noticed his brothers just made it out the door. I hear Vren's voice and then... Matthew's.

Shit!

I can't be put face to face with the guy right now. Or any other time.

Thankfully, Rachel was on my side, ready to head home.

"Bye, Aud," I sputtered, giving her a brief wave and started walking down the front steps.

"Drive safely, Rach," Kylie chirps.

Rachel follows a few steps behind, but I was preoccupied trying to make out the male voices in the porch.

Too preoccupied that I tripped on the very last step, landing on my knees, my hands flat on the ground. The hone of conversation stopped.

I gritted my teeth.

How the hell did I get so lucky?

"Jess, are you okay?" Audrey called out.

I bolted upright and dusted my hands. I didn't dare look back. Rachel was on my side in a flash, but I held her hand and dragged her along with me.

"Jess, are you sure?" I hear Kylie asks, worry dripping in her voice.

I shove a thumb up in the air, still no backward glance. I'm embarrassed enough. "Yep, just a tiny trip." No, it wasn't. It hurt like a bitch.

I limped a little when we finally made it to Rachel's car. She ran a perusing gaze all over me, worry plastering across her face. "You're not really okay, are you?"

"No. My knees are probably getting bruises." I climbed to the passenger seat, wincing.

She walks around the car and hastily jumped behind the wheel. "Let me see."

"No." I groaned. "I can't believe this. This is my best leather pants."

Rachel gaped at me.

I clutch her shoulder, turning all the way to her. "Rach, I need you to tell me something."

Her beautiful brown eyes broadened.

I suck in a deep breath. "Did I look stupid when I tripped back there?"

She blinked, her eyes dropping to my chin. "No."

I gasp. "Oh, my freaking God! You couldn't even lie to me."

"You didn't." Again, she blinked.

"You're the most terrible liar I've ever met, Rach." I grumbled.

She sighed. "Sorry."

"I should've known. You're too pure to even swat a fly." I gesture to the stirring wheel. "And such a good driver that I totally forgive you."

Rachel laughs, shaking her head. "I'm still gonna have to see your knees though."

I sighed, convincing myself Matthew Parkinson didn't saw me tripping like an idiot. Even when he probably did. Ninety-eight percent did.

First five chapters of my new book. Gah, I can't believe I'm writing the fifth book. What do you guys think? :) it's not horrible, is it? Lol. I know it's just the first five chapters but do tell.
