Sometimes I tend to think way too much before sleeping. Sitting on a wheelchair at the terrace, observing the night sky. Hoping that one day I will stand on my legs again. Envying everyone that could do it. Doctors told me that there is a chance for me to heal, but it will take time and a lot of effort. I believed them at first, but as a time come by my hope started to slowly fade away. Physiotherapy these days is harder and harder for me to get through. Sometimes I really want to give up. Letting small silent tears escape my eyes as sadness overwhelmed me. I know I should be happy but at the time like this, I can't help myself.
I took a deep breath trying to stop whatever depressing thoughts that were partying in my head. Looking straight at the full moon and the sparkling stars on the night sky I smiled a little.
"What a pretty smile you have." The velvet-like voice interrupted my little moment. I hurriedly wiped that few droplets of tears and turn my head after the intruder. I was quite surprised to see a new tenant of my house standing right next to me. He was at comfortable grey pants and a white t-shirt. Even in that simple outfit, he looked stunning. I glanced away shyly.
"Enjoying the night view?" He asked again. I just nodded. "You are not talkative, are you." He commented on my lack of response.
"I'm not good with strangers."
"I can see that, but don't understand why. You're pretty cute." He noted with a grin. Looking at him with an eyebrow raised I pointed to my wheelchair.
"This thing has the magical power to make people pity me. And I don't like that." I frown. "And I'm not cute," I whispered the last part. He laughed at my comment.
"You don't have to be so offensive you know. It's not like I pity you."
"You don't?" I wasn't surprised by what he said. It wasn't the first time I heard that.
"No. I really don't." He stated confidently.
"Sure, maybe you mean it." I sight as I looked him in the eyes, " But you know, eyes don't lie."
"So, what's your point." He asked curiously.
"You have it too. That unusual spark that is shouting poor him." I replied dramatically. He stayed quiet for a while letting silence envelop us.
"You're right " He begins talking again. "and wrong at the same time." I faced him with interest.
"Some people may pity you. But I don't. It's more like, what bad luck but he's still pretty, kind of thing. " He was grinning at me.
Pretty, me? I don't understand this man. Calling me pretty when he doesn't even know me. What a weirdo. Rising eyebrow I frowned at him. How can get to know him better, when he's talking like that.
"Can you stop calling me pretty?"
"Why?"
"Actually I don't feel comfortable with it."
"Gun! You are out without blanket again!" We got startled with a shrieking voice. I rolled my eyes. There he goes again. Nagging like an old woman. I smiled a little.
"It's not that cold outside, New." I tried to sound irritated.
"He's right." Off stand up for me.
"Oh, you're here too Off? I didn't notice you."
"Of course, your eyes can only see this cutie beside me." Off pointed at me. Really how many times will this guy call me cute?
"I told you to, not to call mi like that." I scowled at him.
"Oh... I wasn't speaking with you," He shakes his head "but with him." He pointed to my cousin. I looked at New, who moved protectively between me and Off. With his arms folded across his chest, he glared at Tays friend, evidently not approving of his way of addressing me. I was observing their gazing contest with amusement. We all just met literally hours ago and these two were already getting on each other nerves. I found it somehow funny. I didn't realize, I giggled out loud. When my cousin spoked.
"What's so funny?"
"I don't know," I couldn't stop small chuckles to escape my lips. "I just find you two hilarious."
"Are we?" Asked Off with a big grin on his face.
"Yeah, you definitely are." I giggled a little bit more, before clearing my throat. "If you are hungry Off, in the kitchen is still some pizza left. I believe you know how to use a microwave. Right?" I send him a small smile.
"So generous of you. I am actually quite hungry." Off patted his stomach "I'm going inside. Good night cutie... Buffalo." He winked at me and quickly went inside the house. I just shook my head at him.
"Did he just call me Buffalo?" New asked angrily.
"Yes. I believe he did my dear cousin."
"I'm going to kill him for real." He fumed. "He's an asshole."
"He is." I agreed. "But he's Tays friend too. He can't be that bad, right?" I smiled at New. He was still looking at the door, where Off disappeared a while ago.
"He's flirting with you." He commented as he averts his gaze back to me.
"I don't think so. He's just trying to be friends maybe." I pondered.
"Friendly my ass." Growled New. "Tays friend or not I am going to watch him."
I smiled at my cousin's protective behaviour. He always made me feel save with his actions. It makes me feel warm inside, knowing how he cares for me.
"Let's go inside," I said. "It's getting cold here and I don't have a blanket."
New didn't say anything, but I could tell what was going inside his head. He grabbed the handle of the wheelchair and carefully pushed forward, taking me inside my room.
