The woods were no place for a Queen.
It was dark and cold. At every corner there was always a new horror. But it was a place for hunters.
Picture a small clearing, with little light.
This is where our story begins...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The girl ran faster than she ever ran before. Cold fear trickled into her heart. The hunter's dogs nipped at her heals, howling every once and a while. She heard the hunters yelling to each other, but they were far away. She pushed forward and tumbled down a hill, yelping, as she splashed into water.
Now soaked and shivering, she scrambled out of the river and up a hill. The dogs were right behind her. Thinking fast, she turned right, only to trap herself against a cliff. She whipped around to see the dogs growling at her, baring their teeth. The girl took a deep breath, threw back her hood, and howled.
The howl pierced the cold night air as the dogs whimpered. The girl stopped howling and looked anxiously to the cliff. Suddenly a net was thrown over her.
"Gotcha!" a hunter yelled, grinning like a mad man.
"No, I found her!" another hunter argued.
"But I caught her!" the first hunter complained.
"I reckon both of you let my daughter go," a voice growled.
"The Big Bad Wolf," the hunters whimpered together, their voices filled with fear.
The massive humanoid of the Big Bad Wolf towered over them. He is the most feared of them all in the forest. He glared down at the hunters.
"I told you to let her go," he growled, anger flashing in his eyes. The first hunter nudged the second hunter who quickly took out a knife, and cut the bonds. The girl scrambled away and pressed herself against the cliff wall.
"Now," the wolf continued. "You will get out of here immediately, am I correct?" The hunters nod.
"Then LEAVE!" the Big Bad Wolf roared, and the hunters tumbled away. Then the wolf jumped down, scaling the cliff in one leap. He turned to the girl.
"Are you alright?" he asked, walking over to her.
"I-I'm fine," Little Red Riding Hood gasped.
"Good," the Big Bad Wolf gently helped Red up the cliff. "Now let's get you home. Your mom is worried sick."
Ω
Red was late.
She knew it the minute her mom told her what time it was. Before her mom could ask why, Red was out the door halfway to the picnic. Her friends had scheduled a fun picnic for the day. Snow White and Cinderella would keep their faces calm, but Rapunzel would be in hysterics. The last time Red was late, Rapunzel was wailing her name and screaming like a mad woman.
Red broke threw the rim of the forest and ran down Sunny Valley, bounced across Grandmother's Bridge, and burst into Queen Courtyard. Her friends were waiting on a picnic blanket and, just as Red suspected, Rapunzel was freaking out.
"Hi, guys!" she called out breathlessly. "Sorry I'm late."
"Sorry!" Rapunzel shrieked. "Sorry!"
"It's all right," Snow said in a soothing tone. Man, that girl something. Red sheepishly sat down on the carpet. The others sat down too, and they all started to eat. As she chewed, Red looked at her friends. Rapunzel looked ready to die of anger. Next to her, her boyfriend, Flynn sat next to her, calming her. Although they were the king and queen of the Golden Flower Kingdom, they didn't get married yet.
Queen Snow and King Charming were the king and queen of the Red Apple Kingdom. They were married. So were Queen Cinderella and King Philip. They took care of the Glass Slipper Kingdom. Red wasn't a queen, but she technically was the queen of the Dark Forest. Red sighed. Sometimes, looking at her friends she wished that she had someone who loved her, cared for her...
"Hey," Rapunzel said, snapping her fingers in Red's face, jolting her from her thoughts. Red shook her head.
"Yeah?" she asked. Snow sighed.
"Red," Snow said softly. "I asked what took you so long?"
"Oh," Red finished her sandwich. "Well, I was hunting and then I was chased by hunters, then I got caught, but my dad saved me and by that time I was pretty much late," Snow sighed.
"Another capture?" she shook her head. "You're lucky you're dad was there, or-"
"Or I would have been dead meat, I know," Red moaned. She glared at Snow. "Got it," she snarled. She was suddenly very aware that everyone was staring at her. She grabbed a chicken leg and nibbled it.
"Ah!" someone screamed. Red perked up. Her head snapped towards the dark forest.
"Did you hear that?" she said, slowly standing up.
"Hear what?" Snow frowned, standing up too, the golden fabric of her dress rippling. Red stared at Grandmother's Bridge. The person screamed again. She stared.
"Red?" Rapunzel said nervously. "Is there-"
The voice screamed a third time and Red bolted.
"Red!" Snow yelped. She broke from her husband's grip and ran after her. Rapunzel, Cindy, and Flynn raced after her. King Phillip and Charming cried out but didn't run after them, knowing that Flynn would take care of the girls.
Red continued to run not looking back. She raced into the Dark Woods and froze. A boy with tousled dark brown hair and green eyes fought off a rabid dog (Or was it a wolf?) with a stick. He wore a t-shirt with a worn out brown jacket, ripped jeans, and light brown hiking boots.
"Fetch!" he yelled and threw the stick in Red's direction. Red ducked and the boy locked eyes with her. They stared at each other for a minute and Red felt her cheeks go red hot. Then the dog/wolf howled and jumped at Red. Not thinking twice, Red whipped out her dagger, (Why didn't she use this when the hunters caught her, is beyond me.) and sliced. The dog/wolf whimpered and limped away as fast as he could.
"Well," the boy said, still staring at Red. "He definantly didn't fetch." He laughed and then coughed, as if he had no idea what to do, which got Red nervous.
"Yeah," she smiled nervously and sheathed her dagger.
"By the way," he added. "Nice reflexes." Red blushed.
"Thanks," she said, scratching her cheek.
"Um," the boy suddenly was nervous, so nervous in fact that Red could smell it. "My name is Parker, by the way," the boy smiled nervously. (I am getting sick and tired of writing nervous and nervously!)
"My name is-" Red started.
"Red!" Rapunzel, Cindy, Snow, and Flynn came up beside her.
"Red," she finished. Parker nodded.
"Well then," Parker said, slowly inched his way deeper into the forest. "Nice meeting you and-" he paused. "I'll see you again, right?" He looked at Red. She smiled and nodded. Parker looked a little relived.
"Well," he said stepping into darkness. "See you later or whenever," Parker raced off. Everyone was silent. Rapunzel smirked at Red.
"No!' Red pushed Rapunzel playfully, but secretly she hoped that Parker really felt that way about her...
Ω
Red kicked a stone and when it flew in the air she blew and it flew into the air like a feather. (Yes, she can really kick a stone that high.) She whistled a tune under her breath, keeping her hands in her pockets.
Whrrr
Red frowned. What was that? Red thought as she peered over the ferns. She gasped in horror. She watched as men in bright yellow suits tear down the trees. Red's eyes filled with tears.
Man, I don't like this.
Oh be quiet, woodcutter! You are such a softie!
Will both of you be quiet! I am trying to write a story here!
Sorry.
Ugh. Anyway, Red scanned the landscape as she wiped away the tears but when she saw a familiar face, her heart and stomach dropped and she started to cry again.
Parker.
He struggled against his bonds, shouting insults to all of them.
"You'll pay for this!" he crowed. "You'll all-"
"Stuff a sock in it, boy!" a man huffed and literally shoved a sock in his mouth. He mumbled something (probably a swear word) and his eyes darted around until the locked on the woodcutters' leader. Parker growled and struggled more.
Red peered at the man. He had dark black hair with some graying bits. His eyes were a warm brown, yet a look of violence flickered inside. Red frowned. Wait a minute...
Just so you know, I don't actually cut down trees.
I only take what I need.
And, why, might I ask do you say that now?
Well, I-
THAT MAN WAS YOU!!! YOU'RE THE WOODCUTTERS' LEADER!!!
What? That's just- that's just crazy! Why would I-
AAAAAHHHHH!!!!!
What is wrong now!
Well, let's see here. While I've been chatting with you, the story continued and now RED'S BEEN KIDNAPPED!!!
WHAT!?
Oh, this is bad, this is really really bad!
So? I mean it sounds bad but-
Don't you get it? If the narrator doesn't keep up with the story it will fall apart. And when that happens-
Our whole world will perish.
Precisely.
Oh.
Can I speak now?
Sure.
O.K. So this is my best guess of what happened.
Red had gasped really loudly and a man heard her and she was knocked out. She woke up on cold stone and Parker told her everything that was happing.
Uh, that doesn't sound that bad, right?
LET ME FINISH! Red looked outside. She thought about what Parker said, how the fairy tail world had only a week to live before-
WHAT!
BEFORE the Enchantress from Sleeping Beauty would kill the core and destroy it. Red licked her dry lips.
This isn't making much sense.
I agree. Who is the Enchantress?
I know. This is horrible. I need to warn someone. Someone not from this chapter...
