Goldielocks loved her swing.
And since everyone else liked the playground it was one place no one else bothered her. And here she was able to think whatever she wanted to think. She didn't mind being lonely, especially since everyone else was, like 5 or 6 years old. She was the only 13-year-old here and the longest to ever stay at the orphanage. Of course, that wasn't a good thing. So while she sat and longed for a family, the others took their time to get picked. Now, instead of a child she was more like a slave!
Goldie thought of her one good memory. A cloaked woman humming a lull bye and placing her on the steps of the orphanage.
"Sleep tight, darling," the woman whispered softly. She rang the doorbell and fled. Goldie hummed the lull bye. When she did this she hoped her mom would come out of the shadows and hum it with her, but that never happened.
"Hey, look!" a boy cried pointing at Goldie. "Goldfish is singing!" Everyone laughed and a few came over and started taunting Goldie, knowing she couldn't do anything, because if she did she'd be thrown in the cellar for a week. She glared at them but that didn't stop them. Her nose started to twitch. She rembered the last time that happened. One minute she was glaring at her nemesis, the next her nemesis had teeth marks on her arm.
"Witch!" the girl wailed and ran. Before that Goldie had a lot of friends. Now, she had none. She felt her teeth ach, slipping in and out of consciousness. One minute she's on the swing the next she's chasing them.
"Choosing Day!" someone screamed and the kids ran inside screaming and yelling. Goldie stopped and just swayed, trying to come back to the orphanage and reality. She shook her head and walked inside.
Choosing Day. Goldie silently groaned. She hated Choosing Day. She never got picked so obviously she hates it. Choosing Day was when all the kids got picked except one.
"Better luck next year," Ms. Tut always said to Goldie. She was the nicest to Goldie. She even helped her with her chores when Mrs. Grimm wasn't looking. Mr. and Mrs. Grimm were in charge of the orphanage.
Goldie took a seat at the far end of the chairs where she always was. Then people streamed in and in seconds everyone except Goldie and three little pig boys were left. Goldie started to get up when she heard a ding and quickly sat back down. A cloaked woman stepped in. Goldie knew this was her mother and then that hope left and was replaced by sorrow. The woman's cape was blue. Her mom didn't wear blue. Wasn't it something like red?
"Sorry for being so late," the woman murmured to the caretaker. The caretaker shrugged, but started muttering under her breath. The three pig boys looked at the woman hopefully, but looked at the floor when the woman looked at Goldie instead. She sized her up, and a little smile twitched at the end of it.
"Her," the woman whispered to the caretaker. The caretaker's eyes widened.
"But-" she started. The woman's hood slipped slightly and the caretaker gasped. "Yes, yes, yes of course!" she quickly grabbed Goldie and shooed them out the door. Goldie glimpsed a look of utter shock on the pig boy's faces. Goldie frowned. Hadn't they heard what the woman had said?
The woman led Goldie through the streets and into an alleyway. Goldie sighed. Of course she would live here! Why-
Goldie's thoughts were interrupted when a golden carriage clopped into the alley. The woman pulled off her hood to reveal a pale face, rosy lips, and shining black hair. The carriage doors opened and Queen Snow White pulled Goldie into it. Goldie gaped at Snow.
"You sure she's the one?" King Phillip asked. Snow nodded.
"I'm the what now?" Goldie asked, completely confused. Snow raised her eyebrows.
"My new adopted daughter," she said.
What seemed like centuries but in realty took only 10 minutes, they arrived at the palace. They walked through the main hall. Goldie recognized all the portraits of the kings and queens.
"Who's this?" Goldie's voice echoed off the walls. Snow looked at the portrait of a girl with bright blue yes and red hair wearing an red cloak. Her picture was a gloomy one, with one candle lighting it up. Snow White's soft smile faded.
"An old friend," Snow replied looking away.
The picture looked oddly familiar...
Suddenly a picture of her old mother flew into Goldie's mind. She gasped and stumbled backwards.
Blue eyes.
"That woman," she whispered. "Mom..." And with that everything went dark.
