Day 2: Worry
After a couple days, Skyler realizes he is trapped in this condo. With no electricity. Either from the flood waters, the wind, or the lightning. Skyler does not know. The power went out some time yesterday. The elevator to get downstairs or to the roof, will not work without electricity. The hurricane continues to rage outside his highrise. The intensity of the storm is the same, a category five, but the pace is much slower. Hurricane Hoit no longer shifts from city to city. The TV will not inform him via his unlimited amount of channels and streaming content. His kitchen is fully stocked. There are plenty of candles for a romantic evening. Along with a full liquor cabinet. Skyler begins to worry.
He eats dinner by candlelight. Some leftovers from a local restaurant. Skyler imagines he is eating at an upscale restaurant. A place that serves an inspired entree. In this case, a sea bass in a delicate sauce along with a creme brulee for dessert. His fridge contains an entree. This is brisket in a doggie bag and a bottle of barbecue sauce. Skyler sniffs the brisket before he dumps it on his plate. He shakes the bottle of barbecue sauce. The once famous actor adds a small dollop alongside the brisket to dip in. His meal is quickly over. When he is done, the celebrity stacks his dishes in the sink. There is no running water.
Skyler snuffs a candle atop the counter. The candle goes out in between his fingers. The celebrity known for his late-night penthouse parties, decides to go to bed early. He takes a candle around the lounge while he snuffs out the rest. So much for automatic mood lighting. Skyler leaves this one by his bedside. He puts it out before he draws the drapes around his bed. His mind races with thoughts. The only chance of rescue is not only after the storm, but after the waters recede. This will occur an additional week or two after the storm.
