I squinted my eyes in the bright early light. I rubbed Salems back lightly; his head shot up quickly, he smiled at me and licked my face. I pushed him off laughing as i did so. I took a deep breath and and smelled- Dream!? I sat up quickly looking around. No one was around.  I looked down at my pillow- the fabric scrap? I lifted it up slowly, and held it up too my nose. Sure enough.

It smelled like him...

My hand slowly fell into my lap. I stared at my hand and it held the fabric softly. Salem sat all the way up stretching his hind legs as he did so. Salem sniffed the fabric in my hand, I pulled it away quickly not wanting him to ruin the smell. Salem's ears pricked up, he smiled, and looked around.

"Huh?" I slowly held my hand back out "d- do you know this smell?..." my voice trailed off as Salem smelled it again, but more intently. He smiled again and barked a couple times. I smiled widley,

"SALEM! THIS MEANS YOU CAN HELP ME FIND HIM! Oh My God!-" I stopped to think for a moment "wait... this means you know him! OH MY GOD YOU MUST'VE BEEN DREAMS DOG!" I thought more for a moment feeling the fabric in my hands. I looked back down at it. I rubbed it against my face, "This is weird..." Salem barked in agreement.

I grabbed my bag making sure I had enough water. My energy level was high, I could find Dream! Salem followed me closely behind.

Salem and I got to the spot where I found the scrap. I looked for any more signs of Dream. Salem barked as I looked into a broken down car. wrappers! I pulled on the car door, but it was locked. I checked the door on the other side, it was really rusted. It was a dark red-orange color. I gripped the door handle and yanked it open. The creaked and sighed, and fell off it's hinged. I jumped back the door just barely missing my feet. The palm of my hand stung. I looked to see it had gotten cut on the door. I quickly cleaned it with water, and wrapped it up. Salem hopped into the car smelling the seats, and trash. He barked again and again. Smiling even wider he looked back at me. I smiled along with him.

"If Dream isn't here- then... He must be near where I found you Salem!" I grabbed Salem's collar and tugged him out softly. He hopped out of the car landing on his feet. I started toward the convenience store. My pace quickened what if he's still there! I stumbled over some debris catching my self and continuing to my destination. Salem ran slightly ahead stopping when he got too far.

I aproached the convenience store slowly.

"Salem! Search!" I ordered salem I held out the cloth as he smelled it. He began tracking the smell into the store. He followed where I had been, and then back out. I looked up at the sun, "Shit!" the sun was already low in the sky. Not quite sunset, but close. "Salem!" I called out to him. Salem's head popped up looking back at me intently. "Come on buddy!" I clapped my hands waiting for him too come. Salem stared me down, and continued tracking the scent. "Salem..." I sighed. Running up too him to try and grab his collar. I approached him about to grab his collar as he continued sniffing. Abruptly Salem sat down right next too a pile of debris. My hand came too my mouth. I quickly began digging the debris away. Salem was digging at the loose dirt on top. My hands were getting scratched and bruised from the trash. I frantically pushed more out of the way. I paused for a moment, but quickly returning to digging.

I was about too give up hope when my hands brushed something soft. I looked down and saw something that looked like the scrap. I held the scrap up next to the soft fabric.

It matched.
