The extremely impulsive decision to connect his and Jungkook's lips, completely blinded Taehyung to what he was actually doing.
No where did it occur in his brain that this may be a terrible decision. That this could potentially ruin the perfect dynamic they have. That it could cause him to feel more than he wants to. That it could end their friendship, for better or worse.
The close proximity was just too tempting. It's as if dangling candy right in front of a baby, who'd turn that down? Exactly, no one in their right mind. Even though he knows he should've been smarter and stopped himself, there was no stopping him when Jungkook's eyes practically begged him to come closer. If not to kiss him, then to just get a better view of his eyes.
So before his mind could process it, Taehyung was leaning forward. Closer and closer to Jungkook, eyelids softly closing, until eventually he stopped moving. His pouted lips stretched forward, hoping to graze themselves against the others, but it never happened.
Only then Taehyung felt the strong tug on his left shoulder and along the front of his torso up until his right hip.
He srunched his eyebrows and peeked through one eye. He first saw Jungkook's face, startled slightly by the space, or lack thereof, between them even though he's the one who lessened it.
Taehyung noticed that Jungkook's dilated eyes were focused on his still pouted lips. He slowly relaxed them and watched as the others eyes now took purchase on his own. He stopped breathing suddenly, gulping down all the weird feelings that surfaced in his body.
Taehyung couldn't bare to look at Jungkook for much longer, the intense gaze making him feel as though Jungkook is reading into his soul.
So he finally looked away, eyes travelling downwards to see the cause of the kiss obstruction. His seatbelt.
The first thing that ran through his head was a question to himself about when he actually put the belt on, because he doesn't remember that at all but he clearly did. Then he thinks of how much he hates it. Hates that it stopped him from finally kissing Jungkook and confirming his feelings about the man, and his assumptions from that night. But then he thought about it again, and maybe it actually saved him. Saved him from making a huge mistake and possibly losing another good friendship over feelings.
After thinking about it like that, Taehyung decided that he should probably thank the seatbelt for doing its job and restricting him from moving too far forward, rather than hating it for that very reason.
Jungkook didn't even know what to do or say in that moment. Going from simply asking Taehyung to sing to nearly kissing him happened so fast that Jungkook barely had time to process it all.
He knew deep down he wanted it so badly, but he also had the strength to hold back. Solely because he really didn't want to complicate anything, especially since Taehyung's already caused conflict in his mind and heart about so many things he wouldn't normally think or feel.
And his heart did it again, one of those weird flip things that it normally does when he sees Taehyung or talks to him over the phone. Just anywhere around Taehyung. And he doesn't know why, but suddenly it's become much more apparent in the past few days. He hopes his heart won't grow to fond, because he doesn't want to pick up the pieces if it shatters again.
That same heart was now beating fast as Jungkook's eyes travelled across Taehyung's flustered face. He briefly caught sight of the gentle way the other ran his fingers vertically along the seatbelt, before looking back into his eyes that were now staring back.
Only then did both of them realise how close they still were, resulting in a slow simultaneous retreating effect.
Jungkook let out a puff of air that had been caught in his mouth for awhile as he stood up straight. He ran a shaky hand across his face, as he tried to process whether what previously happened actually happened. He was in such shock one would swear they actually kissed.
