Lyrik's POV

The rest of school couldn'tve gone by fast enough for me. Alana went home, but I stayed after to get my new tutor today. Reggie, my last tutor, had some personal issues and ended up leaving the program last month. I've been going back and forth between tutors and none of them are clicking with me. The head of the program stopped me today letting me know that I would be having a new tutor today. She said that she think they've might've found my new Reggie. I haven't had a good grade in Algebra for a minute now and it needs to change. I need to understand at least something before ACT's next year.

Once I got signed in for tutoring, I sat at the empty table away from everyone else and tried to start working. I waited for 10 minutes and started to notice that everyone had a tutor except for me. I sat quietly trying not to look impatient. Sooner or later, I heard the door open and my irritation level went through the roof. That guy Jamal walked in.

He started looking around, but I put my head down back towards my work.  I tried to make it look like I knew what I was doing. Next thing I know, Jamal pulls out the chair in silence. Once he sat down, he started to get out supplies which I've never seen him do.  His backpack always looks full, but I've never seen him pull out anything other than the food he eats during class. We sat in silence for quite a while.

" Do you want help or no?" He asked, but I didn't answer. Did he actually think I was going to let him help me when he doesn't even do his own work in class? I kept working, and I don't care if I was doing it wrong at this point. I was ready to hurry up and leave. " Look, I don't wanna be here anymore than you do," he started, " but since I'm here, why not let me help you?" I slammed my pencil on my notebook and stared at him.

I started getting tired of looking at his face, so I put my things in my bag and left from the table.  I didn't need help that bad. I might've even slammed the door once I walked out, but who even cares at this point?

Jamal's POV

You have got to be kidding me. I didn't sign up for this shit, man. All she had to do was let me help her out, but fine. She could fail for all I care. Here's the funny thing, I don't care. If this is what I get for trying to be nice, then fuck it bruh.

I packed up all my stuff, but once I started to get up from the table, my things started falling out. Shit. I packed up all my stuff  ( again) and left without saying a word. I'm tired of being here, and all I want to do is sleep.

Once I left out of the room and into the hall, I saw Lily still here and with an attitude.

I was getting ready to go and speak to her, but she got up and left. Watching her leave out the door, she got into a car and the vehicle drove off. What the fuck is wrong with her, man?

Lyrik's POV

I got in the car and spoke to my mom, but we were silent the rest of the way home. I didn't really feel like speaking, so I went straight to my room and turned on my radio.
" I just want somebody (body)
To treat me like somebody (body)
Won't be like everybody (body)
All you gotta do is love me for me babe..."

I turn the radio on to Tink playing. Have you ever felt like the radio can somewhat scan your heart and play the song that is directed towards how you're feeling? Here's the funny thing about music . Whether you're talking about the melody, the beat, or even the lyrics you can interpret the song however you want to. A love song or even a heartbreak song can be used to define a friendship or a relationship. That's the fun thing about music...

I drifted off to sleep for a good two hours.

I woke up to my phone buzzing and it was Alana:

Me: " Hello?"

Alana: " Hey, girl."

Me: "Hey wassup?"

Alana: " Dang! Why your music so loud?"

Me: "Ooh my bad"

I got up and turned down the music.

" Girls, you'll never guess who's my tutor."

Alana: " Who? Reggie back yet?"

Me: "Nah bruh... Jamal"

Alana: " What, how did that happen?"

Me: " I don't know. He was irritating, so I left. He's such an asshole."

Alana: " Maybe, but to be real I heard he was really smart."

Me: " Pff I've never witnessed it, but I don't care. He's still an asshole."

Alana: " Stop buggin' he might be able to help you with math. Give him chance."

Me: " Ugggghhhh"

Alana: " And he's cute! BONUS POINTS!!!"

We busted out laughing. Maybe Alana was right about him being smart, but that doesn't excuse him from being such a jerk. I don't really know what I should do right now. All I know is that I'm running out of time and I do need help.

Me: " I'll think about it."

Alana: " You're so stubborn, but alright girl. I gotta go and eat. If I don't then count on all your snacks being devoured tomorrow."

I laughed and we both said our goodbyes. Ugh..

After sitting in my room for a little while longer, my mom decided to call me into her room.

"Hey, mom." She didn't look at me. " Come here," she said signaling me to her bed. That's when I knew someyhing was wrong. She was quiet during the whole ride home and didn't say anything to me when we got home. I wonder what was on her mind. Hopefully, it wasn't my algebra grade. "Honey.." Uh oh...it was bad. It wasn't my grades. "Na-Na passed away." I stared at her. "Ha..that's not funny mom." She started crying, but all I could think was that her acting was getting pretty good. "She went swimming yesterday at the lake and there was a current," she paused in between sobs, " and it took her away. They haven't found her body yet." She continued on crying. " Then that means there could be a chance that she's okay. " She shook her head. " Na-Na is a swimmer. She's won medals to prove it." All she could do was cry and shake her head. "She's not dead. She's still out there. " on that note I left her room and sat on my bed. There is no way that this could be happening right now. Na-na is fine.

It was hard for me to sleep last night, so I got up this morning and made me a iced coffee. I decided to bum it out today because I didn't feel like putting on pants. People were walking up to me and talking to me but to be honest I really didn't feel like talking. I actually got to class five minutes early and sat there.

Everyone started coming into class and Mr. Baldwin started to teach.

After 15 minutes of class my phone started to ring. It was my mom. I walked out into the hallway outside of class and answered the phone:

Me: "I'm in class mom."

Momma: " I'm coming to get you."

Me: " For what? School just started."

Momma: " Na-na is gone baby"

Here we go again...

"They foumd her body last night and Linda went to identify her body..she just called and told me it was her baby."

After my mom said that everything she said went into a slur. I hung up the phone and went back into the car and waiting for my mom to call from the office saying that she was here. When she got here I grab my stuff and left out of the room silently.
