"I think we should head back" Cam stated as a matter of fact.
"Can I stay here for the night?" I asked him, hoping he would agree.
"I wish I could say yes, but you know him, if he finds out you're gone, he'll go ballistic. I wouldn't anger him" he told.
"You don't need his permission. You're not his slave" Abby reprimanded me.
"I know Abby, but I told Caiden that I would stay at his place till he returns"
"Just because she has to do what he says doesn't mean that she is his slave. It's about his care, he doesn't want her to get hurt. He is just looking out for her" he grunted angrily.
"What I don't understand is, why the hell is he so afraid that she would get hurt? She isn't a freaking child who clumsily hurts herself, neither does she has any enemies who would want to harm her. Unless he has? Is he in a freaking gang or what?" she demanded rather vexed at his comment.
I noticed the way his eyes were looking at everywhere but us. He was not meeting our eyes. What is he hiding? I wondered. Was I right to conclude that they might be involved in a gang? Don't tell me, what I and Abby guessed was right? Were we in danger? I was starting to get nervous now.
I mean it all adds up. People being afraid of his presence, Caiden being all cold and acting like he owned the lace. Him demanding respect from everyone and if someone ever does something wrong, his need to punish them.
I am starting to rethink my choices. I am really nervous about this whole relationship.
"Let's just go back" I declared.
"Very good decision" Cam agreed.
"You know, you don't have to" Abby tried convincing me.
"I know" I sighed in exasperation.
"I'll call you when I get there. Bye. And don't miss me too much while I'm gone. I'll be back home in a few days" I wished her goodbye before getting in the car with Cam.
He drove the car, while I sat beside him, thinking about Caiden.
~~~~~
We soon pulled into the parking lot of Caiden's building.
It was almost midnight. I wonder if he got to know about our little trip. I'm nervous thinking about having a conversation with him. What will I tell him? That I left because I was in doubt about him since I think that he is involved in a gang.
He would throw a fit for sure.
"Pray to God that he didn't find out. Otherwise, I'm a dead man. He wouldn't say anything to you, but he sure as hell will have my head" Cam said, obviously stressed out.
"You need to stop worrying. He is out of the country and he wouldn't find out unless either of us told him. I'm not going to open my mouth. Are you?" I asked.
"No way!" he exclaimed.
"Good. Now that is clear, let us go in and act like everything is okay"
~~~~~
I waited beside Cam to enter the pin in the keypad to unlock the penthouse. I went through my phone to check if Caiden called or messaged, but there was none.
I was upset now. How could he be so busy that he didn't even call or text me till now?
"Are you okay?" Cam queried seeing my dull face.
"Yeah, it's just I texted him in the morning and he hasn't replied yet"
"Maybe he got busy. You know he would call you the moment he gets free. In fact, he wouldn't have left if this deal wasn't important. This is really important for the family and it was necessary for him to be there. This one is for the reputation of the famiglia" he explained.
