Colby came up behind me, lifting me into his lap and securing his arms around me.
"He's a dark angel. We are forbidden to ever talk to them. It's just the way it is." My mom said, calmly.
"But why?!" Tears pricked my eyes.
"Because it's the law, Samuel." She frowned.
"Miss-" Christy started.
"No! Shut up." My mom replied, coldly. "Come on Samuel."
"NO!" My heart rate rose.
"YES SAMUEL! I SAID YOU'RE COMING WITH ME!!" She gripped my arm, yanking me out of Colby's grip. Tears poured down my face as I resisted my mother's pull.
"STOP!" I cried, reaching for Colby's hand. She pulled harder, yanking me further away. My feet dug into the ground, creating small holes in the dirt. I used the holes to push myself out of her grip, launching myself onto Colby. I was shaking, tears rolling down my cheeks. Colby gripped my body tightly, rocking us back and fourth.
"I got you," he whispered. "It's gonna be okay, Sammy." He whispered the last word quieter then the rest.
"Please," I whimpered, my eyes filling up with tears. I clung to Colby tighter, feeling safe in his arms. "Leave."
"I'm not leaving without you!" My mom growled.
"Yes you are!" Christy stood up.
"Excuse me?"
"You heard me." She crossed her arms. "You're leaving without him."
"You can't tell me what to do."
"No, but don't you see how happy these two are together?" She gestured to us.
"It doesn't matter. They're opposite." She huffed.
"Go away!!" I stood up, flapping my wings with anger.
"Samuel!"
"NO! I SAID GO AWAY!!! I'm staying here with Colby!" I pointed behind my mom.
She glared at me, then at Christy.
"You'll never survive out here alone." She narrowed her eyes at me.
"I'm not alone. I have these two with me." I smiled at them.
She stayed silent for a moment, backing up and lifting herself off the ground. The leaves on the ground, tumbled around as she flapped her wings. They took her into the distance, leaving just us three.
I immediately ran to Colby. Burying my head and wrapping my arms around his neck. He smiled, running his thumb over my cheek.
"I'll leave you two alone. Colby will show you to our home. You're welcome to stay as long as you like." Christy smiled, flying away.
Colby glanced at my lips, licking his own and leaning in. I pushed my lips onto his, tangling my hands in his hair and wrapping my legs around his waist.
"I love you." He whispered, pulling me further onto his lap.
"I love you more."
