I Wish I Knew Her Better

"Are you sure?" I asked the woman behind the desk again

"Are you sure?" I asked the woman behind the desk again. Sighing, she took off her glasses and began to clean them.

"Listen sweetie, believe me when I say we haven't had anybody matching that description in this motel," she sighed, giving me the same answer that the past two motels did.

"Thank you anyway." I slid my hand slowly off her desk and dragged myself back to the car. I had been up all night searching for Klaus and I had come up with nothing. I prayed that Diego was doing better than I was.

I only had two more motels on my list that they could've gotten to in such a short period of time after leaving the Academy. I turned the key and began to drive to the next one. I hadn't slept in about 35 hours and it was starting to hit me. I shook my head. I was fine. I wasn't that—BANG....tired.

Sighing, I put the car in park and got out to assess the damage. I had driven into a mailbox on the sidewalk. Cars sped past me honking, one guy even flipped me off. Like I didn't realize I crashed.

"You really shouldn't be allowed to drive my car Sunshine," came the remark from behind me.

"Our car," I yawned as I sat down on the sidewalk.

"Here," Diego handed me a cup.

"I don't like coffee."

"Yeah no shit," he grumbled as he sat next to me, "It's hot chocolate."

I took it graciously and sipped it slowly. "How'd you find me?"

"I was walking home trying to see if you were there when you decided to ram into a mailbox right in front of me."

"You love me," I smiled as I leaned into his chest.

"Yeah yeah," he shrugged as he wrapped an arm around me and placed a kiss on my forehead. "You okay?"

"Depends. You asking about the crash or about my emotions?"

"Both."

"I'm fine physically," I sighed as I downed the last of the drink.

"So I'm guessing you didn't find him then."

"Nope."

We sat in silence for a few minutes before Diego got up and popped the hood on the car. Deeming it good enough, he closed it and grabbed the keys out of my hand. "Let's go."

"Where?" I asked as he helped pull me up off the ground.

"Home."

"No!" I yanked my arm out of his grip. "Klaus is being held hostage by two lunatics! I will not leave him!"

"Sunshine you're exhausted. I'll drop you off at home so you can get some rest and I'll keep looking—"

"I said no!" Diego fell backwards into the car without warning. I rushed over to him, "What happened?"
