>Ruel's Point of View <

As I sat in the back seat of the car I couldn't help but smile. Today I'm gonna find out if it really is Mataya Green. I need to know. I want to know. She use to be my bestfriend growing up. We lived in the same neighbourhood and our mums use to be bestfriends. Me and Mataya drifted after about 9th grade when we started making new friends. She would still come over to my house with her mum sometimes. But I hadn't talked to her since her mum died. I didn't even see if she was okay, I should of. I stared out the window as we drove down my street. That's when I saw her. "Mataya?" I suddenly felt the car slow down. "Did you say Mataya, honey?" Shit I must have said it out loud. My mum was looking at me. "Yeah, uh I saw her walking." Quickly my mum turned her vision to look around for Mataya. I could tell when she spotted her, the car immediately started reversing. I looked out the window to see her continuing to walk. She mustn't have noticed yet. I felt they car stop and saw Mataya's head look up in confusion. I look at her, I thought back to when I had a crush on her in 5th grade. I knew she would never like me back so I didn't tell her. But still, she was always the most amazing person in my eyes. I'm such a dick for never being there for her. Shit I forgot I was still staring. I gave her a little smile and looked at my mum. She too was staring at Mataya, she hadn't seen her in ages and she looked a lot like her mum. I nudged my mum a little and she rolled the window down. "Hey honey, do you want a lift to school?" My mum asked. Mataya still looked confused, but gave a little smile and shook her head gently. "No, that's okay Mrs. Van Dijk, I can walk. It's really not that far." She always spoke so kindly, I could never forget that. "Mataya, hop in. I would love to give you a lift and catch up a little." My mum said. I could tell she was hesitant by the way she looked at me, but she gave another small smile and opened the back door. "No, no. Ruel you jump in the back, Mataya can ride in the front with me." I looked at mum for a second then hoped out. Mataya kept her head low, trying to avoid any eye contact with me. What did I do? Was she mad at me? I slouched into the backseat. That's when it came to me... the idea.
