Chapter 7; the assignment

>Ruel's Point of View<

It had been a week since the car ride with Mataya. We had been texting heaps. Every chance I got I would message her. She still didn't know it was me tho, she that it was "Vincent".When I saw her in the hallways she would lower her head, She'd play with the straps of her bag. School made her nervous, or maybe it was just the people. Today I have Chem with her. She's been skipping all our Chem classes since the car ride. I hope she didn't transfer classes. I keep trying to bring up her childhood while we text but she just shuts me down. I hurt her, I know I did. I'm just not sure how.  I need to make it right. I heard the bell go off, signalling 3rd period. I made my way to Mr.Gowders class. I sat down at my usual seat and waited for her to walk through the door for the third time since we last talked. The class was about to start and she still hadn't walked in. The bell rang and Mr. Gowder started the class. I zoned out, I couldn't stop thinking about Mataya. I had to find her at lunch. I had to ask her why she wasn't in class. Maybe she did transfer classes. I started to pay attention again. Mr. Gowder was talking about this months assignment. "This assignment is gonna be a big one, I'll need to study hard and work even harder. I've decided to make it a partner assignment. You can pick your partners, I suggest you choose wisely. Please tell me who you will be doing your assignment with at the end of the class." I looked around the class room. None of my friends were in this class. Except Mataya. She wasn't here to refuse and it would be the perfect excuse to talk to her. Let's just hope she's still in this class. 

*lunch bell rings*
Everyone was giving Mr. Gowder their partners. I waited till everyone was gone to talk to him. "Hi Ruel, who are you doing your assignment with?" I had to check that she was still in the class. "Uh actually I was wondering if I could do it with Mataya. Is she still taking this class?" I tried to look at the attendance list on his desk but half of it was tucked under his computer. "Yes, Mataya is still taking my class as far as I know, she just hasn't been coming lately. If you can convince her to come, you are more than welcome to work together." I smiled as he said those words. I nodded and walked out. I had to find her. Where could she be? I walked around the hallways looking everywhere. Maybe the library, she always liked to read. I checked all the rows and all the tables, but there was no sight of Mataya. Maybe I could try texting her

Mataya;
Hey what's up? 

Ruel;
Not much, what are
you up to?

Mataya;
Just reading a book.

Ruel;
Library's kinda smell,
how can you stand it?

Mataya;
Hahahah I know.
I'm not in  the library,
I'm on the school oval.

Ruel;
Smart choice, shit I gtg.
