We stood there in the canal waiting for the Janus Order to show up. It felt wrong that we were doing this. We took Vendel's staff. I never thought the day would come that would do this. But, we had to do it. For Aaarrrgghh and Jim's sake. Blinky pretty much spoke our thoughts aloud when he said, "Dealing business with these vile agents... I dearly hope that we are doing the right thing."
"Anything to get Aaarrrgghh back." Toby said.
"Brace yourselves. Looks like the creep patrol is here." Claire said as three cars pulled up to us.
"Follow my lead. I've seen enough spy flicks to know how a hand off works." Toby proclaimed while placing his hand on Blinky's shoulder. I wasn't completely convinced, but I'll go with Toby's lead on this one. Toby continued, "It's a precise ritual of nuance and power." Otto got out of the car and was thrilled to see that the staff was in our possession. He took a couple steps toward us, but Toby demanded, "Not another step, wiener schnitzel! That's far enough. Now, throw us the antidote, and we'll throw you the staff!"
"Are you serious?" Otto questioned.
"Deadly!" Toby replied. Otto took out a piece of paper that had the antidote on it, then tried to throw it towards us. Emphasis on tried. The paper barely made it a couple feet before falling to the ground.
"Now what, Agent Toby?" Claire questioned.
"Um, okay, fine! Let's meet in the middle, but no funny business! Hands where I can see them." Toby said. We met Otto in the middle and I kept an eye on the people in the cars to make sure that they didn't jump on us.
When we reached Otto, Otto said, "Enough theatrics. We will do the exchange now!" It was a bit of a tug of war for a moment and Otto said, "Would you let go?" Eventually, they did let go and Otto gazed at the staff in his hands and said, "Yes. This will do quite nicely."
Toby looked at the antidote, but it wasn't what we were expecting, and Toby exclaimed, "Twig of Worm's root, ounce of silver...This isn't an antidote! It's a shopping list!"
"What are you trying to pull here?" I questioned about ready to summon the Thriskule.
"It is the ingredients to the antidote. Boil these in oil until it burns, and that will bring your friend back. Pleasure doing business with you." Otto explained. He was having trouble opening the door and I noticed that the car was full of goblins. He growled, "Fragwa, open the door." The door opened and he turned back us exclaimed, "Auf Wiedersehen!" He chuckled and got into the car. After that, the cars drove off leaving the three of us alone.
"We did the right thing, right guys?" Claire questioned.
"Desperate times. Desperate measures. Now, we must concern ourselves with some shopping. Where might we find the tears of one untouched by love's first kiss?' Blinky questioned.
We all looked at Toby, who proclaimed, "What? I've been kissed. Many times."
"You're nana doesn't count." Claire stated.
Then, Toby said, "Oh."
After that, we were assigned what to grab for the antidote. It's finally happening. At last, we were going to save Aaarrrgghh and rescue Jim.
